Cal-tracs for street.
i've been looking at suspension lately, and im looking at either using cal-tracs or comp eng slide a link for street/strip use. I was just wondering if its capable for cal tracs to be used on the street with out major adjstments all the time? This is for an 80 camaro.

Re: Cal-tracs for street.
My '69 Camaro had swaybars front and rear and I pulled them off about ten years ago. It also has drag shocks, full spool in the rear and pizza cutters for front tires and it handles just fine. Obviously it won't do great on the skid pad, but it handles everyday driving fine. I installed a set of Caltracs in November and noticed no change in handling. My car runs low 11's with 60' times in the 1.60's. You only need to adjust them once.
Yank the swaybar and put the Caltracs on! As long as you understand that it won't be a canyon carver you'll be fine.

Re: Cal-tracs for street.
We have a custom "caltracs inspired" suspension in our '73 Camaro, and on the street, going around corners, you can feel the suspension loading/unloading, and it rides kind of rough. Now there's a difference if you have the links pre-loaded or backed off (backed off so they're just "along for the ride", and you don't notice it all that much).
With the bars cranked up though, and with a pair of old, used ET Streets, we could barely get the car to do a good burn-out without smoking the clutch!! Even on regular street radials, it hooks really well with the caltracs suspension.
Like Steve just said though, it won't handle like a Formula 1 car! I haven't driven our '73 for so long though (since August or September? ) I can't even remember what it feels like anymore!

Re: Cal-tracs for street.
I've been running CalTracs on the street for over 2 years now. At first I had it adjusted with a bit of clearance up front but the noise was irritating. Now I keep the front snugged up against the leaf spring and all is quiet. They work as advertised.
