Break in question...
#2
Street or race engine?
For the street I keep it between 1,500-200 rpm's for about 15 minutes then drive it light for around 2-3,000 miles.
Depending on the type of race engine..... drag has no break-in, and endurance engines I run it at 3,000 rpm's for 30 minutes.
You can get 20 different answers from 20 different people though.

Well, there didn't used to be 20 different answers. Initial break-in on a "classic" engine is for the flat tappit cam. After coating the cam lobes and lifters with assembly lube, start and run the engine for at least 20 min. at ~ 2000rpm. After that, final tuning is done and then you can drive it. Used to be that 500m., at varing rpm, was concidered enough for proper ring set-in. This should be done with "high zinc dino" oil, like racing oil or bike oil. Nothing wrong with longer break-in times, but I have never seen any Data that indicates it is necessary. After that change the oil and filter, with your choice.
