oops, I forgot to mention that. Stock intake, 1st gen.
I picked up a 10" round by 2" tall Edelbrock air cleaner housing today, but haven't put it on yet.
I see there's not much clearance though hate to have to go to one of those twin side mounted air cleaners for $300. Guess maybe the cowl hood will have to come a little sooner

one thing you can try is putting some clay ontop of things and slowly close the hood - that'll tell you exactly how much space you have. I'd check at the front edge of the aircleaner - hoo clearance should be tightest there.
if you have a tight fit, you can always pick up a drop-base aircleaner - that'll gain you an inch or two depending on who makes it...
Be sure you have clearance between the choke horn (if it's still there) and the top of the aircleaner though.
