About to buy my 1980 Z28... what do you think?
About to buy my 1980 Z28... what do you think?
Here's the offer from a friend. Its a 1980 Camaro (Z28 I believe). Comes without an engine and has a hurst 4 speed automatic transmission which I want to replace with a stick. The car is purple and has no damage that can't easily be fixed by me in under 30 minutes. It comes with a rear end that isn't bolted up at the moment too. The interior is filthy but I feel alot of it can be cleaned up. Here's the nice part... sub frame connectors and not a spot of rust anywhere, not in engine nor under body. This car was made to be built up! The car is $700 as is. I figure I can sell the tranny for a few hundred and bolt up the rear in my friend's garage. Any comments? I'll get pictures soon.
Then for an engine he is offering me a mid 90's Chevy 350 (manufactured for aftermarket, its wasn't pulled from a car). Its got a chrome air filter and other parts as well. Comes with radiator and fuel pump and everything else that is needed to install it. That's another $1000. So I figure $700 for car, $1000 for engine, $500 for labor, $500 for interior cleanup and I got a really nice car. The best part is its pushing as much power as an LT1 if I am not mistaken. Sounds like what I want. So any comments?

Its a hurst turbo shifter, and he said it has a short throw. Its got the pistol handle style shifter as well. I'll get the specs on it, but what are you looking to spend? Shipping will be a pain if you aren't in New England.
