I would like to install a 305 motor with 4-speed automatic transmission from a 1988 T/A into a 1979 T/A that has a 301 motor with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Does anyone know how hard this will be?

you can fit anything in anywhere if you really want to

 

IT shouldnt be that hard I imagine, it will probably fit very well. Look into the motor mounts since the ones from the 88 probably wont bolt to the older ones frame. Also if engine is pc controlled that will make difference in gauges and stuff... but it should be an easy swap, just put a few performance parts on the 305 1st and it should be plenty fast

 

it will need sb springs/new motor mounts probably tranny mount possibly driveshaft exhaust,clutch pedal/linkagesmanual shifter

 

It's defiantly possible, but why not go with a more updated motor, such as an LT1?? or at least a TPI 350?? There are plenty of instructional guides that can help you with this type of swap, Ask here if you need any general help too.
