79Z need to put it in DD mode temporarily
well making the 79 into a toy is going to have to be put on hold. due to the non starting issues in my IROC and the tranny losing 5th gear in my 96 Camaro i need to put my 79 into daily driver mode. really all i need is a new tranny. I'm thinking 700R4 for the time being so i have that overdrive gear since my commute is largely interstate. current tranny is TH350 but it's blown. I'm almost finished rebuilding the carb for the 350 that's in there just time to go tranny hunting. Anyway my question is will the 700R4 be fine for it or would anyone recommend something different? As far as I can tell it will be fine for it just wanting some second opinions. Thanks in advance

Th700 will work, but if I ever lunch the th350 in my 71, I'll go with the th200. Reasons here: http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...wap/index.html
One thing to be very careful with is the TV cable adjustment on either the 200 or the 700. Research carefully. TV cable has control over shift points and tranny pressures. Bad adjustment = low pressure for throttle opening = burned up tranny.
I've seen guys burn up trannys when they chose to mickey mouse the carb bracket instead of buying the proper aftermarket bracket for their carb, resulting in bad adjustment/low tranny pressure/$$$ for a rebuild/having to buy a proper bracket anyway.

yeah i was doing some additional research last night after posting this and saw about the 200R4. And I did see about adjusting the TV cable properly. 3/16th can make a huge difference from what i could see. Thanks for the help though i appreciate it.
