'77 Camaro RS LT vs '98 V6 Y87

i'm just curious as to which car should be faster in overall accelleration, 1/8, and 1/4 miles. my dad owns a '77 camaro RS LT with a 305, manufactured in california. it has 13k miles and has a completely stock 305, except for the true dual exhaust. my car is a '98 camaro 3.8 with the Y87 performance package. it includes LSD, 3.42 rear gears, upgraded steering ratio, and dual-outlet muffler. my car has 98k miles and is bone stock.

i know the 305 in that particular year has 145 hp with 240 ft/lbs torque, compared to my 200 hp and 225 ft/lbs tq. any guesses?

77 305, especially if it has the rounded lobe option, = boat anchor. Smoke him.

The V6 will win. You have more power and probably weigh less. I dont think that stock '77 could even break into the 15s in the quarter. It probably falls on its face over 3000rpm.

My Type LT has a stock smog 350 in it with a quadrajet, and you'd beat me too.

A stock 1977 LT Camaro with 2 bbl 305 in fine tune would run the quarter mile in 17.7 seconds at 79.9 MPH when equipped with 2.73 gears.

At least that is what mine ran in the summer of 1985 and 1986, and it was always mid to high 17's right about 79 MPH regardless of whichever drag strip I ran it. I thought cars that could run a flat 14 second quarter mile were *fast*, and I was agog at a '70 Hemi cuda that ran a 13.7 MPH quarter mile without even trying. Back then the street cars that could eke out a 12-second time slip were the street heros who beat up everyone!

Wow, I knew the car was slow, but not that slow. I figured itd atleast be in the 16s somewhere.

I remember in high school people used to think I had a fast car because it was a Camaro and had a V8. I saved face by never racing anyone.
