Angry -67 steering wheel help

Hey guys, I took my steering wheel off to install my Tach and speedo a couple of weeks ago and now I cant get the freakin thing back on correctly!! Its a grant reproduction 3 spoke wheel. I removed the wheel, the horn ring, and the 2 pieces behind it. Now when I try to bolt the wheel back on the stud slides back into the column, and I dont have enough exposed threads to start the nut. I can t ll the spring is compressed all the way, but its the stud that is collapsing into the column. Right now I have the wheel bolted on without the spring.
