454 in a 69...

Hey all,
I have been considering putting a slighty built 454 into my 69 camaro (425 hp, 500 tq). Would I need to replace my 12 bolt rear? If so, what rear end and gearing (streetable, but also for the occational track run) would you all recommend , and what tranny?
Also, what kind of qm times should I expect to run?
Thanks for the help!

Heck no you don't need to replace it!

TH400 trans, even a 350 would be up to the challenge. Maybe a 3.50 gear with that kind or torque, getting your car moving won;t be a problem. Keeping your gas tank full will be the challenge.

Thanks for the reply, the 454 I'm talking about is a crate motor... what do you think it would run in the qm?

Way to many variables to be guessing 1/4 times. Seen bb's run 14's all the way to the 7's.

But if I had to, I would say 13's.

Do you all know any reliable companies to buy crate motors from?
I don't have much time so i have been thinking about doing that...the possiblilty of putting a 454 on a stand and building it is still an option though.

How much money are you wanting to spend? GM has a crate 454 for about $4600 I believe. Or you could spend a bit more and go for the 502.

Zoomin I see that you have 2003 Z06 and a 69 Camaro bbc. So which do you like the most? I was about to trade my 69 Camaro in on a Z06 but changed my mind when I found the problem and fixed it.

I'd like to have a Z06 one day...I really love my camaro but there just is nothing on the market (aftermarket parts) that can make a 30+year old car into a cadillac like the Z06. I'd like the cold ac, reliability, and handling of the Z, but there is no replacement for the displacement in my camaro.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to build it myself instead of the crate. =)

To bad, if I was going to do it, I'd put the 572ci(720hp) BB in it.

A lot of people build these radical combos...but forget how hard it is on a car that is not properly setup. Blow your tranny, your rear, your doors do not line up any more....etc....
