I read somewhere that you can put a 3rd gen steering box in a first gen to get a quicker ratio.

has anyone done this? it looked like a simple bolt in deal, just wondering if its that easy. I have a leaking box I plan to replace, figured this would be the time to go with a quicker box if its as easy as just getting one for a different year.

i am in the process of doing this it is a bolt in item but you have to turn the pitman arm 180* and you either use the ps pump from the 3rd gen or you have to cut and hose clamp your lines

you will not be able to use clamps on a PS pump way too much pressure, even with a flare it is not a great idea...
you can have custom lines made for not that much but you might as well use the thirdgen pump along with it.

Kacy, what exactly do you mean by flipping the pitman arm 180? is the box shaped differently? do you have a pick of what you have to do?

the third gen is a front steer set up the gear box is in front of the engine crossmember where as the first gen is behind the cross member making it a rear steer this is why the pitman arm has to be moved 180*
