327 Rebuild w/ new cam

I am going to rebuild the original 327 that came in my 68 camaro. I am getting a cam for free from a friend out of a 385 fast burn crate motor.
Here are the specs:
Camshaft .......................
Hydraulic Roller Lift .474/.510", Duration @ .050, .208/.221

What valve springs and rocker arms should i use? and what else should i think about upgrading while i am doing this?

Thats a roller block and your 327 isn't. First off, make sure it'll even fit. Then call a cam manufacturer and get their recommended springs, retainers and keepers. You'll also need to get lifters. I'm guessing you're only getting the cam. Either way, your block and his are different so you need the lifters for the non-roller block. You'll also need a cam button to keep it from walking.

Rocker arms, I'd stick with the 1.5 ratio in what ever roller you decide.

Heads. I hope you have screw in rocker studs or they will start pulling out w/the pressure of the springs you'll run w/a roller cam.

I'm sure there are other things too.

You'll need to get the guides cut for clearance also

You might as well plan on porting the heads while you are at it; stock won't flow much over .450 lift.

Replace the front timing cover; stock is not stiff enough to support a cam button.

Definately replace the rocker arms, as the stock stamped ones won't handle that lift.

Retrolift lifters are usually between $300-$500 in my experience. Might be best to just spend the $150-$200 on a new hydraulic cam/lifter kit and sell the roller cam on ebay

Peace,
Josh

There are so many cams out there that will make much more power than a GM crate motor cam. Those engines are detuned so they can have a warranty.
If you want something muscle car sounding w/ a lot of mid range and high end pull go w/ a Comp Cams XE274 hyd. I have one in my truck. Its well mannered and extremely fast.

i agree it'll cost more than it's worth to retrofit that cam into your engine when for have the price you can find one suitable for your application that will give the same if not better performance
