My 1980 weights 3368lbs with me in it.

It has fiberglass hood and trunk lid. I swapped out the seats and all the sound deadener(sp?) !backseats, !spare/jack, aluminum intake, and aluminum heads on the way.

I also plan on a fuelcell, and tubelicer(sp?) suspension pieces and body parts such as A-arms, crossmember, Kmember.... but thats down the road

WOW! Your car is light!

My 80 Z28 weighs 3600lbs with me in it. 'glass hood, aluminum heads and intake. My car came with no options other than Z28 and the 'fancy' interior. My car came with a 1 speaker am radio!

About the only weight reduction in the future for my car is an aluminum water pump and pulling the sound deadener out. Though a pin-on 'glass trunk lid might be an idea.

I'll also be adding a bit of weight with SFC's.

i should get my weighed again since my cage installation...

My car is the base model camaro... "plain jane" which is about 200 or so lbs lighter then the Z28... much because of the engine/tranny combo.

thanks

i have a 74 camaro tubbed(aluminum), chromolly 10 pt cage, no radio, no AC, no heater, no back seats (duh), aluminum heads, no inner fender wells, glass hood, one kirkey aluminum seat, no center console, no front sway bar, no power steering, skinny's up front, aluminum wheels all around, aluminum fuell cell (15gal), still has carpet and insulation from firewall back to behind driver seat, and it does still have electric windows too.

how close do you think i am to 3000 lbs?? i weigh 160 myself

what other type of stuff is there to help lighten the car without putting more fiberglass or lexan? and i don't want to hack it up too bad. goal is 2800 lbs but that seems a little too light unless i use more 'glass and hack away at stuff and spend but loads just to save a few pounds.

thanks Dave

Mine is a '77 Z28, 3850 lbs. with me in it. Also has through-the-floor SFC's and 8-point 4130 cage. The only lightening my car has are the fibergalss front buckets. Rear seat is still there. Stock steel hood.

Talos - the drivetrain in the Z28 wasnt any lighter than the base Camaro if the base car had a 305. Your car is exceptionally light - did you weight it on the scales at the track? Also - don't get a fuel cell. Sump you stock tank instead. Not worth losing the trunk space for a cell on a street car. My tank has the CE sump installed, click on sig for pics.

3600 with a half tank of gas. 3790 with me in it No wonder I only run 13.0

Full weight car with full interior, subframe connectors, iron heads, water pump etc and only about 300rwhp. My runs were made with 2 psi fuel pressure after half track. I have all the parts to finish the car.

If I don't sell any parts I'll finish the project and run 12.7s on 1.94 non ported camel humps and no weight reduction

3410 on a certified scale, me out of the car, 1/2 tank of gas.

I tossed the A/C system, all the heater/ducting/blower stuff, the emissions (what little it had). Put a glass hood on after the shocking weight visit, but it was only about 20#'s lighter that the factory hood.

3525# without me in it, full tank of gas. I weigh 175#.

Lightening-
1. Motor- Aluminum heads and intake, headers, gear reduction starter.
2. A6 AC compressor traded for R4.
3. Rear fiberglass leafs (8# each vs. 40# each)
4. No spare or jack (35#)
5. Perhaps the T56 is a smidge lighter than the TH-350, but I doubt it. I'm sure my 33# flywheel negates that.
6. 2000 SS wheels and tires. No lighter than my N90s, but probably lighter than the steel wheel package.
7. Battery in trunk- no loss, just moving from front to rear. I am going to the Optima Yellow Top Honda Civic (Group 51 size) battery soon, which is a good 15# lighter than our stock one.
8. Aluminum driveshaft- 6#, but this was more for harmonics.
9. Aluminum drums- 5.5# per side.

That's about it. This was on the scale at the track. I'm looking for a local shop with a 4-wheel scale, for more accuracy.

Todd
