1979 T/a

I'm thinking about getting that. Its got a 301 in it right now, but the guy's got a 455 ready to go for it. All for 1200. How hard will that swap be? Another thing, it needs both floor boards and new door panels. Any ideas on where to get those from? Thanks alot...Matt

The swap should be pretty straight forward.

Since it's a 301 I believe you will need new motor mounts.

The two places that I really like that cater to the Pontiac community are:

Thanks alot. Do you happen to know how much hp the 455s had? Hopefully with the right gears I'll smoke a rustang 5.0

It really depends on what the 455 came out of and what year.

My '74 only had 250 hp stock. Not to sound like a ricer, but with very little modding, it will scream.

Is there a way to find out even though its not in the car? Hehe although it has 250hp, I'm sure they made up for it in torque right

On the front of the motor, passenger's side, there should be a two digit code. Post that code and we can find out for you.

Yeah, Pontiac stopped making them in 1976 and the 400 in 1978. Only a select few TAs in 1979 got the left over 400s.

Yeah I got a 400 in my camaro-It was a straightforward hookup exept for the speedometer. It doesn't work until abot 30 miles into the trip. It came out of a 79 T/A-the interior did too.
