1979 Stock 350

I just bought a completed restored 79 Z28, 350 W/ turbo hydro. I want to increase the HP and Torque without spending thousands, any suggestion on cam sizes, headers that allow use of A/C, intakes and carb?

Re: 1979 Stock 350

I'm looking for some advice myself. I picked up a completly stock 79 Z/28 with 65,000 original miles. 350 with M-21 4-speed and 3.73 rear gears. It also has factory air that still blows cold.
I have an Edelbrock Victor 4+4 intake I was thinking about putting on. Maybe look for some 96-00 062 Vortec heads. Headers with 2.5 exhaust and then find a nice cam to pull it all together. This is my first Chevy. I know from talking to others that you can get good power out of these, just not sure on the combos yet.

There is a thousand different combinations you could make with a SBC. What you need to decide first is how much you're willing to spend. Heads, cam, intake, carb & headers will make a huge difference.
Depending on which cam you want will dictate what kind of heads & carb you will need.
I know I'm not being much help without any specific answers here, but if it were me I would look at a decent flat tappet hydraulic cam, and decent set of iron 2.02 heads, aluminum intake and Edelbrock carb for all around street power with dependability. If you're looking to spend some large money then I would go with a roller cam, aluminum heads, roller rockers & a 750 Holley double pumper.
That's my $.02.

Myself personally, I am doing a vortec head swap with an Edelbrock Perfomer RPM Air-Gap intake and a Holley 650CFM four barrel. For the cam I would be looking at the cam that Performer RPM cam as well. Probably nothing over .470 lift. That combo should be good for making power from about 1500 to 5500 RPMs. Throw a 2500 stall converter in and some traction and I should have a very streetable 13 second car.
