If I was your old man I'd get myself a 455, and just not tell anyone

Arent the 400 cranks the same as the 350's? It's the same stroke isnt it?

Same stroke - yes, my typo - good catch!
326/350/389/400 = 3.75 stroke, 3" main journals
421/428 = 4.00 stroke, 3.5" main journals
455 = 4.21 stroke, 3.5" main journals

Cranks are sold now with large c.i.d. stroke and 3" journals to fit the small bore blocks with rod/piston clearancing.

I was really kidding as I doubt the 350 could take a + .200" overbore
But many a 455 crank inside a 400 block running around out there already

He is going to have to do somthing to the bottom end. Because we just picked it up from the guy that gave it to him yesterday; which said the only thing that was wrong was no carb and broken windshield. Turns out the car has been sitting out for over 10 years and has a rod sticking out of the oil pan.

why in he world work on the bottom end of a 350 from a 71 bird?
It's the sign he needed to get a bigger/better motor!

If I was you - I'd challange him to build a 400 or 455 with factory heads that will keep up with your car.
It won't be easy for him - you'll be safe fore a long time.
If he has money to throw at it - he still has to get it built and the supporting mods to the car.
It's a dream a long way from being realized
