** T56 Tranny in 2nd gen **

I know it's been done with a custom x-member, but does someone make a bolt-in x-member so I don't have to fab one up? Perhaps a 3rd gen one can be used (not sure if they are the same). I've seen them for the 3rd gen and 1st gen - but not the 2nd gen.

Thanks!

no way in heck could you use a 3rdgen one.

but, if your crossmember just goes on top of the subframe like my friends 79 WS6, then it would be EASY to use one...

it uses the same GM mount so just keep your crossmember, then drill new holes farther back and bolt it in there.

Take your existing one, drop the mount pad 1.625", and slide the whole thing back about 6.5" on the subframe.

Done.

Keisler Engineering makes what your lookin for. I just read an article about the T-56 swap in all sorts of Gm cars. Their website is www.keislerauto.com I don't think that they are really expensive either. They also have like 6 different shifter positions so you don't have to cut your console or your floorboards. Hope this help you out.

How far along on that project are you Richard? I'd like to take a look at it if you don't mind (need some inspiration to get the ball rolling on my 70).

KC,
To be honest, I'm about the same place as you. Ha ha. Actually I have the T56, but am searching for an appropriate LT1 to begin the drivetrain portion of the install. I PM'd Ryan Ahart about looking at the tranny (bad 1-2 syncro) and he hasn't replied. Other than that, the car itself is just a shell...no interior, no engine, no paint. It's a solid body, and I had a buyer lined up from Minnesota of all places...so like you, I've contemplated selling at times. I'd kick myself if I ever did, though.

For inspiration, I tend to bounce over to Pro-touring.com.

You guys sound just like me and my 70 project.. build, sell, sell, build.. one day I will decide and just go with it!

But you are right about kicking yourself after you sell it.. I still miss my other 68 Z28.. <self kick>!
