Price for '96 Formula convertible....
Price for '96 Formula convertible....
Many of you may have noticed that I've been searching for the right LT-1 F-body convert for the past two years (especially since I just missed on the purchase of a super-rare-and-nice '95 purple Formula convert...) so that I can become a genuine owner and contributing member here.
Would now GREATLY appreciate any advice on price to offer for a near-mint, original-owner 80,000-mile black '96 Formula auto-trans convertible, with many new typical parts (window and light motors, water pump, trans mount, etc.), so that I can finalize a deal I'm negotiating on this local (SoCal) car.
Thanks in advance, and I'll aplogize to the administrator in advance as well if this should be in another category ----please fell free to move....

To give you an idea, I bought my '95 t/a vert m6 bone stock with good(not great) paint, bald tires, minor rips and holes in the leather interior and 112k miles for $4800. I think 7-8000 would be a good price for the car if it's as mint as you say it is
Formula Convertible
I'd pay between 7-8000. 8000 for a 6spd car, and 7000 for an auto, just because of rarity of the 6spd convertibles. I've got a mint 95 formula, and i think 7000 or so is fair for a mint one. Theres less and less nice LT1 fourth gens out there. Local to me there was a green 95 formula convertible with an auto and 30,000 miles that went for like $9000
Thanks for your opinions, guys. Your prices are right in line with what I've seen on E-Bay and what I was thinking to offer --- this guy is asking $8600.... I was going to offer $7,400, maybe $7,600 tops.
There are places online -- used car ad sites -- where people advertise LT-1 f-bodies for up to $16,000! I've watched cars --even nice ones -- stay advertised for months -- even years. Example is a 12,000-mile original-owner Formula convert in Maryland that has been advertised for $15,000 for at least a year. Another Formula convertible --- this one multi-owner -- has been offered for months and months in "great condition" with 65,000 miles for "7,200 or best offer" (the guy tells me people keep saying to him that they like the price but hate the color -- green with tan roof).
It's nice to know there are other 4th-gen convertible owners out there who appreciate the rarity of these cars, but are still rational about what to pay for one....

Just to close this thread ---- I was all set to head out to pick this car up and the guy had already sold and shipped it -- for well north of $8,000. This is my second time just missing-out on a mint original-owner Formula convertible (it took a full year to find another), and I genuinely believe it is getting impossible for us working guys to scoop-up a deal any more when we are competing against the other end of the middle-class -- those with four or five or six vehicles (plus the bikes, wave-runners, etc.), etc. It happened with vintage muscle-cars, now it's happening with modern muscle-cars.
Well, I guess this is just sour grapes on my part, and I should be happy my wife and I can still afford our rent, that we have no kids to support, and have some form of health-care, but we work hard -- I mean really labor -- just to keep those necessities, so it certainly appears that I will not be getting an F-body this year or any time soon. No matter how much I want a rare LT-1 convertible, I just refuse to take the financial gamble on spending more than $9,000 on a car that may soon have significant repair needs.
Just venting...
