The oil issue you have is likely due to piston rings not sealing and allowing combustion pressure to reach the crank case.

You need a breather setup on the valvecover if you dont have one already!

the rings should have sealed during the break in. ( if done correctly, and by NOT listening to Eric) you need some kind of evac system. sounds like just too much blowby on new motor.

properly is just a opinion. I would say to start it up get up to operating temps, and shut it down, let it cool, then do the same thing over and over again. that will definatley help seat the rings, then its on to racing...

I am sure your rings are fine, maybe its just a simple gasket leaking??? maybe I will come over one of these days and check it out with you. I would hate to see you get rid of that thing over a simple fix. even though you are frusterated with it. lol I remember a few yrs back I would have traded my Malibu for a cavalier

You need to do a leak down test. That will tell you which cyl(s) is/are leaking. If its leaking more thank about %10-15 into the crank case you have a problem. There are a vast number of things that will cause this. Most likely improper machining or assembly. Either of those will require that the engine be removed and the problem diagnosed and corrected. If this is a ring problem it WILL NOT fix itself (feel free to put a couple more hundred on it and test it). When the gasses are blowing buy it will not allow the ring to seat. Period.
I am not trying to rain on your parade but I ran a machine shop and was on a top fuel pit crew. I know a thing or two about rings
