autotrader gto scams..

I'm not quite ready to get a gto but I always like to browse autotrader and ebay to see what the best deals are... I've come across 2 insane deals on autotrader and I'm sure they are scams. Both are 2004s.

#1. Glenholden, PA. $12k
#2. Chicago, IL. $8k

Both of these looked perfect. I contacted both of these sellers. #1 told me that he was currently in the UK and the car belonged to his father who died a month ago. He also said that Autotrader was holding it in their warehouse in Denver, Colorado and that they would ship it. Well first off all Autotrader does not offer shipping. Nor do they have a warehouse.

I contacted #2 who told me he was currently in Germany and the car was with him but they would not let him register it due to emission differences or something like that. He said he wanted to try to sell the car in the US since its registered here...he even insisted he'd pay for the shipping back to the US.

Hmmm.. two ppl selling 2004 gtos dirt cheap claiming they live out of the country. Its gotta be the same guy. Also the first one disappeared from autotrader a couple weeks ago and now it has resurfaced. Go check it out. Just look for a 2004 for 13k and it will show up in Glenholden, PA. Someone contact this guy and see if you get the same response...

Re: autotrader gto scams..

I was searching not too long ago. Every one that was a decent price was mysteriously sold..... but the dealer had another one that was significantly more money. I'm not going to fall for that crap. Eventually the right deal can be found.

I had the same thing happen several times on E-bay for Camaros that we're priced too good to be true. They are always out of the country, selling the car for $10k less than it is worth, and insist on using a third party to secure the transaction, which makes you think that they are protecting you, but they are not.

There was a special on 20/20 or dateline or something like that a few weeks ago for similar scams involving homes for sale with the sellers being out of the country and wanting you to send the funds to them overseas.

If someone is selling something that is too good to be true, and they are overseas, it is likely a scam.. Watch out for these!

Re: autotrader gto scams..

Yes, for sure sounds like a scam to me. This reminds of a similar incident that happend with my mom, tho it didnt involve a car or house. My mom got an email one time, this guy claimed to be a lawyer of some sort from over-seas and said that we had a rich uncle that was killed in a car crash, he even gave details of the situation. My mom had never heard of this stuff happening before so she wrote him back even tho she was sceptical. She wrote him back and showed interest in what he had said. He replied back the next day with instructions for her to send him her bank account information and he would wire the money into her account within a period of time. Well, we didnt fall for it. I wrote him a nasty email through her account and basically told him to **** off. He even had the nerve to reply back AGAIN telling us that we had made a mistake and we would regret it and he no longer wanted to do business with us. Well a few months went by when she got another similar email telling us the same thing except this time our "dead uncle" got killed in a completely differant country. I swear, some people will do ANYTHING to scam people. Sorry this was so long just thought I should share my story of another similar scam happening. Peace, Dustin.

Sorry, I forgot to add that this lawyer claimed that she was the only person on the list that was to receive all his money after he was killed in the accident.

Re: autotrader gto scams..

well here's what i dont get. The scam for the gto in pennsylvania... well that ad disappeared a couple weeks ago and now is back. I would figure autotrader would have caught something like that by now. The yellow gto for $8000 is gone so look for that scam to come back too then. I wonder if people actually get fooled into these. I know they give out the sellers phone number but I wonder if that is the real number or if its just someone associated with the scam or whatnot. Too bad there isn't a way to get some extra cash for catching these losers

Yea the dude with the yellow gto for $8000 was the one claiming to be in Germany and couldn't get registered over there because of emission differences. And then he said he'd pay to ship the car back too. what a joke
