XM Delphi SkyFi install in 1995 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Just thought I'd share the pictures with ya guys...

I couldn't use the double-stick tape. Where it's mounted, the dash area is curved, so not enough surface area was making contact. I wound up using three long screws, which I wasn't so thrilled about, but it works well. You also do see the antenna on the inside of the car there, it looks our the rear window.

as far as the service, I'm very happy. I've heard XM before in my ex's car, and the quality is very good as well as the programming. What I really like about this unit is that it tells you the artist/song title that is playing, which is great for me because I often recognize stuff I hear on the radio but don't know the names of it.

Looks good man!! Hard to find room sometimes for those Plug-N-Play units. Mind if I print off the pics and show them to some customers of mine?

Is that other wire that is going up towards the headliner for a radar detector or something?

If so, you could hard-wire in with your radio... I mounted mine right under the tint line on the drivers side. Its right against the pillar there.

Whats good is that you dont see any wires and no one really notices it there if they look into your car.

Just a suggestion

Yes the wire going to the top is for my ValentineOne. I've had it like that for a year and a half now. With all the wires in there now because of the SkyFi I was thinking of maybe routing it to stealth it out a bit, but I'm not sure. You don't see a lot of wires, just some minimal ones. I'm glad that SOMEONE likes my install. I posted it on a thirdgen/fourthgen board and I got reamed because it is "unprofessional looking" and looks like a "botched abortion" as well as having "poor placement" and just no style. *rolls eyes*

So you're a manager at circuit city? When they do an install like I did in an f-body, where do they usually mount the radio?

Botched Abortion? Damn thats harsh!

The thing that sucks about the Plug N Play units is that they are so big and bulky. They require a pretty big "footprint" on the dash somewhere.

One thing you might want to consider is trying to find a mount for it (if you dont like where its at). There are some companies that make aftermarket mounting brackets.
Example: http://www.cellularmount.com/panavise/xm.htm

You could do some digging and see what you can find. Someone went to a Walmart or something and got a radar detector mount. I was suprised. It held the Delphi SkyFi in there with no problems. If you did that you might be able to mount it up next to your rearview mirror or something.

I think for that room that you have in the car though you picked a good place to mount it.

Come to think of it, I dont think weve mounted one of the SkyFi's in an F-Body. Ill look around and see if I can find any pics of ones that we did and let you know.

Hope this helps some!

Well some people (who don't have XM) suggested the door (after I had done it), however I had explained to them it's not a good idea to remove your eyes from the road completely while driving. I mostly let the passenger play with the radio, and they all love it. I really couldn't think of a better place to put the radio, because I didn't want to place it on the dash up top because it would/could obstruct my view. I'm pretty happy with the way it is setup currently, however any pictures you may run across, I'm definitely interested.

Oh yeah a lot of people I've noticed in the f-body scene are pushing for/saying they would have went with the aftermarket head unit..however most of them fail to understand the advantages of the steering wheel controls/stock 12 disc delco cd changer I have.

I like it. Although it would be cool to have it flush with the dash, your install looks good to. Can't wait till I get mine put in (have an XM ready head unit though).
