working with vinyl

Wasn't sure where to put this so I'll ask here.

I have a few questions on working with vinyl.

How would I form vinyl over lettering like this w/o getting wrinkles? How should I make the letters...and how should I make the vinyl stick?

I want to make a box like this for amp display.

But instead of having the WS7 emblem there, I would rather have the 3D effect lettering there....something like this....but obviously smaller.

All help is appreciated.

I use 3M adhesive spray (High Strength 90, NOT the Super 77) to attach the vinyl to the guitar speaker cabinets I build. Here's a 4x12 cabinet I just built and wrapped in vinyl.

To do lettering would require some good contact cement and a heat gun to help form the vinyl around the letters.

So would I need to strecth the vinyl at all? or just adhere it down? Also, on the lettering, would I apply the cement to the back of the vinyl first, and then use the heat gun, and then press it down? or would i even need cement on the letters?

The only stretching you need to do, if any, is when going around corners and stuff.

You put contact cement on both surfaces. Wait a while for it to tack and then press the pieces together.

How do you keep it from wrinkling/creasing when going around corners and such?

Contact cement. Once the two surfaces are bonded together they aren't going anywhere.

Use the heat gun to keep it from wrinkling. If you use the heat gun, you can stretch it, therefore keeping it from bundling up and wrinkling.

Also, you don't want to stretch it too much, you'll skew the grain and it will look bad. That's why I don't mess with the stretchy kind of vinyl.

Thanks guys. I will keep that in mind. I just did a practice for the lettering. I cut out the letters with cardboard and then glued the cardboard to another piece of cardboard. It turned out really well. Hopefully I can get the same turnout when I do it again.
