Wiring Bazooka Tubes to Stock Stereo?
Wiring Bazooka Tubes to Stock Stereo?
This is for my Blazer.
I have two 6" Bazooka tubes I want to mount behind my rear seat in it, they are not self powered.
I'm looking for easy here.
Can I simply mount an amp with built in crossovers in the back near my jack and use the rear speaker wires as leads to control the amp? Of course running new power to the amp.
What about the remote wire? I really don't want to take apart my dash and yet I will need the amp to be off when my truck is off.
An easy to understand explanation of things is much appriciated.
Thanks!

Yes you can use a speaker-level input for most amps, mine has that option anyway...
I didn't personally install the remote wire for the amp, but i imagine you will have to at least take your radio out to hook i up. If i were in your position, i would try to find an amp with an on/off switch, or wire a switch to the power coming from the battery. You could make it an LED switch so you don't forget it.
Be careful of the voltages. However if you're only running an amp for a couple little 6"s, then you might be able to use 8 or even 10 guage wire for power.

Re: Wiring Bazooka Tubes to Stock Stereo?
Will I need to get both sides of speakers into the amp, or will one do?
I suppose with one I may be missing out on some things.......

Re: Wiring Bazooka Tubes to Stock Stereo?
you will need two. Most amps that have speaker-level inputs come with a hookup to the wires that plugs into the amp. You'll need to get some more speaker wire and extend the back speaker wires so they will plug into the amp.
You could also do a speaker-level to RCA adaptor instead, however this would need to be installed very close to your radio, so again, you'd need to take it out. Speaker-level inputs are fine usually.
If you only put in one side, you'll only get that side's signal. While subs are mono, i can't image that not sounding a little off. You could try it, it certainly wouldn't harm anything.
Good luck wittchaself.
