Who here is running Shivas?
Who here is running Shivas?
I'm getting a lot of good input on these subs. And they don't look as ugly as I thought at first. Plain jain black sub is ok with me. So these things out hit Jl3s, Jl6s, Kicker Comps and most things on the block heh? Most likely I will be running that Mtx 6500D amp on it. Specs say the amp runs 775 watts at 2 ohm mono 14.4 volts. That should supply them plenty of power and hit pretty hard heh? What kind of spl? mid 140s at the dash? Better to run sealed or ported? How much cubic air space for 2 12s ? The whole back in or just the cubby hole. Just getting some info. I got a local guy that is cheap and builds excellent boxs. I'm picking up that MTX for $309.99 shipped while the local guys wanted $459.00 for the thing. I will be either be running the cheapest available Alpine deck or either a Pioneer Premier 740mp witht it too. Any advice I'm missing on what to do?

If you were to put a pair of shivas in my deep box with that amount of power, I would expect 145-150dBs no problem. I've done shivas before and they are top notch for what you pay. You should check into one of my boxes though. Not only are they extremely loud, they fit great and look nice too. Link's in sig.

So a box big enough for the 2 to give max spl will require coming out of the cubby hole and some of the box going towards the front to get enough airspace. I will run sealed or ported. Which ever is best to do.
You won't get enough air-space out of the cubby hole alone to run shivas. They need at least 1.25 cubs and they love 1.5 cubes. To do that properly you need a rather large box. One that fills the well at least. And sealed is fine with shivas--they still get way loud.
I think I'm going to run sealed. Sealed systems hit too. I know from experience from only a Zr240 and 2 sealed Kicker comps and they hit like mad with about 1 cubic ft a piece. This setup should even hit harder? Am I mistaken? Sealed systems just have better overall bass response. Punch bass, low bass, high bass. Just overall better IMO. I listed more rock stuff . Will listen to some rap occasionally just to bump but like rock much better and the punch it gives out. Old stuff like Metallica Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters are great system checks. ZZTops Rough Boy always sounds good on a sweet ystem. But I listen to the new stuff too. I would say 147-150 db will suffice for me.
Sealed boxes normally give you the best SQ. And they still hit amazingly hard and still very loud. But the box makes a huge difference. Put a nice sub in a crappy box and you get crap. Put a nice sub in a nice box and you get a lot of bass and good SQ.
I have a pair shiva's in steve's 3 cube box. They get very loud and very low... Steve's boxes are also top notch....... If you you decide on a pair of shiva's you can have mine
I'm going with triple 12's I would let them go for 200 shipped for the pair. One sub is brand new coming back from warrenty work the other has been in my car for 6 months. They had jbl 600.1 powering them. I have over 500 postive transactions on ebay.. So don't worry I'm not going to screw you.
