Whats the best sub?
Re: Whats the best sub?
Out of those 3... none... but that's me...
"Best sub" has a lot of variables, what are your goals, budget, etc, and then we can make a better recomendation that just picking 1 of 3.

Re: Whats the best sub?
Well i'm currently running two 12" JL 12W3V2's, and i want something that will give me more bass. there is no way to afford W6's, so i was looking for an alternative...Why do you say none of the ones i listed? What would you recommend?
Re: Whats the best sub?
Still most defenetly variable. Do you want loud bass or clean bass? What type of enclosure are you using? What amplifier is feeding the subs and how much power?
these are all questions that need answers to tell you what the "best" sub is for your app.
All 3 of those subs are decent, but depending on the answers to the questions that I asked, they will and do all sound differently.
I've heard the Infinity's, and they sound fairly decent, enclosure and power dependent. I've heard the Alpine's as well, and those are a little looser, but still perform well, and I have not heard the Eclipse ones yet. Enclosure and bass type desired will drive how the speaker performs and does what you want it to do.

Re: Whats the best sub?
He's talking JL Audio W (or Dub) 7's.
If it's between W7's and 9 series titanium Eclipse subs, I would be torn. I guess if you can swing hte W7's, get them. The best feeling was pulling up to the lanes with my subs and have people think I had 15's..
Only to let them know I had two eights.

Re: Whats the best sub?
Right now i have a kenwood kac-929( 2 channel bridgeable into 1), it says 1000 watts but i only get about 460 out of it. So of course i would be interested in a new one. My enclosure is a q-logic dual 12" box made to fit in the back of the camaro(over the t-top holder). For my W3's it works fine, but im going to fiberglass a box to fit in the entire back of the car(i don't know the numbers for airspace), but it will be much bigger. I am looking for loud bass that is still pretty clean, but i do want it to hit hard.Any suggestions for good subs and a matching amp?
Re: Whats the best sub?
How much louder do you want it?
And would you be willing to sacrifice any of the SQ that you're used to with the W3's?
W3's are, in my books, the best bang for your buck for overall SPL and SQ. One of my friends had two 12W3V2D4's in a ~1.5 cubic foot common chamber and had a Rockford 1000BD feeding each sub. They took the power (he was smart enough to know their limits and not drive them into clipping), made passengers in his back seat sick, and had excellent sound quality.
If you've had good experience with your W3's, why not get either W6's (The old school version) and use the box you have and a whole lot more power, or get W6V2's in a bigger ported box. Either will give you great SQ (Better SQ with the V2's), and great SPL as well. I remember getting ill in a customers truck with 3 12W6D6 subs in a sealed box.
For amps, there are so many choices and such little time. I've run two JL 500/1's and a couple 300/2's for a long time and I've never had them shut off, over heat, or fail from the blatant abuse I deal to them on a daily basis. I can rattle off a few other brands and amps, but I think first you need to choose the sub and enclosure you're going to go with.
That Kenwood amp isn't that much of a weak link though. Clean undistorted power, from when I remember, is around 500w RMS. While that matches JL's specs to a T, I can say for sure you could feed those subs a lot more juice.

Re: Whats the best sub?
How much power could i send to my W3's w/out hurting them? And how much would the older W6's take compared to the 3's?What is the power rating on the 1000bd? ANd would i be better off to get one W6V2 than two of anything smaller?I want it to pound, but i do not know what would be best

Re: Whats the best sub?
I was running two 8W7's in my winter beater. I can easily say that my two eights could outperform the two 12W3V2's that now reside in the same car. Far less cone surface area, but huge excursion capability.
Right now I'm working on a system around two 13W6V2's. I think they offer the best performance for the dollar, while sticking with JL. I've never run a line of products that constantly amaze me like JL, and that's why I'm sticking with them.
If you consider the 13W6's, two of them basically have the same potential volume displacement as 6 of my 8W7's. I haven't yet heard one, but I would imagine the sound quality would be as good as anything else JL has put out in years past.
If you want to stick with 12's, the W6V2's are amazing subs. I think they are going to offer exactly what you're looking for.
To answer your questions:
-I can't say for sure how much power you could run to W3's before blowing them up. All subs have a limit, but like I mentioned, my buddy was running around 650w RMS to each W3.
-The 1000bd is ~500w RMS @ 4 ohm, ~1000w RMS @ 2 ohm.
Anything can pound out low notes. That's easy. Not many subs can make it sound good at the same time. I would suggest finding a local JL dealer, and listen to the W6V2's. Two 12W6V2's would be an enormous upgrade from what you have. I would recommend giving them both 1000w RMS. Have fun trying to see out of your rear view mirrors with that setup!

Re: Whats the best sub?
I've heard the W6V2's, and they are amazing sounding subs. I would love to install two of them, but would one of those with about 500 watts going to it hit harder than my two W3's?I heard them at the local tweeter but he wouldnt turn them up very loud?Just curious
Re: Whats the best sub?
Well one with 500 watts will be impressive. It probobly won't be louder for one simple reason. You're losing half of your cone surface area. That's like basically stroking your motor to a 383, and then cutting off half your cylinders.
I know there's one SQ competitor that with one 12W6V2D4 hit 139db's. Now I know it's not a huge, astronomical number like you may see claimed, but remember, this is a sound quality rig. 139 db's while still retaining very good SQ is damn impressive.
I think you should wait until you've scraped up enough cash to buy two 12W6V2's and put them in a ported box. The ported box that JL recommends works really well, with a slow roll off starting at around 50hz. It will hit hard, be very loud, and retain very good SQ. I would definetly recommend giving them at least the 400w RMS each.
