Cool What should I do?

Hey

I just bought and installed a Pioneer 760 max power amp and installed it over the gas tank. A JL W3 sub was installed into a JL vantage box and connected to the amp. Since my speakers cant keep up with the sub im looking to buy new ones. Im looking at Diamond audio M5s or M6s, JL XR series, and MB Quart DSD or Q series speakers. Im not sure what to buy. Does anyone have any of these? If so what do you think of them? Im also not sure to buy normal speakers or components or one pair of components and 1 pair of normal speakers. Should I also attach them to an amp? Is it worth it? Tell me what you guys think?

Is it worth it? Abso-friggin-lutely! Your front stage is by far the most important part of your system. I personally like MBQuart and Focal. MBQuart is good if you like laser-beam treble, and lots of folks do. Focal is a little more mild on the top end, this is more what I like. You will definately need an external amp to run these things, how many watts depends on which speakers you get. What kinda budget will you be working with here? That's basically the best place to start. Are you running a aftermarket Head Unit? If so which one? Do you want to keep rear speakers or would you like to spend that money on the fronts(that's what I do)?

Thumbs up

Hi

Im using a JVC headunit. Ill be willing to spend anothr 500-600 bux on a stereo. I will be changing the rear speakers as well. I do need some treble since my sub totally dominates.

Thanks for the reply

With that kind of a buget you won't get super far if you are running front and rear speakers. Running rear speakers is usually about $150-200 more than just running front stage due to the price of the speakers themselves and the added cost of a four channel amp.

Is your amp the 2003 model GM-X972?

I'd steer you more towards a set of Focal (Components or Coaxials) for the front and a coaxial set for the back. And a 4 ch amp like the Pioneer GM-X574(if you want to match your amps). As far as whether you want Comps or Coax's that will depend on if you are comfortable doing the mount for the tweeter or not. Do you mind custom mounting the tweeter? It basically involves cutting a hole and gluing it in.

Online car stereo offers the Quart and JL components from 110-198 so figure about 250-400 for the speakers + the amp for 200 so its right in the budget.

But you'll need RCA's and possibly more amp wiring. You'll also need the speaker wire and other misc. items to complete the intsall. I personally don't like the lower line MBQuarts, the Premiums are pretty nice and the Q-line is very nice. Have you heard any of these speakers yourself, you will be able to best decide what your taste are. That's the best peice of advice anyone can give you, go and listen.

As far as JL, I like their amps and subs . But I have never been impressed with their components. But they are a quality company and offer good products.

Talking

I have heard the lower end Quarts and I do like them. So i cant imagine what the Q or P series is like.

Anyone else have comments? Please post.

It's cool that you have heard and like the MBQuarts. It's never a good idea to buy a speaker that you have never heard. Go with what you like since you can afford it. Are you still wanting to run front and rear speakers? Or just the fronts?

Both front and rear. I just dont like the idea of not having all of the speakers working. I was considering kicks, but they would just get in my way, since my legs are long and its all ready tough to fit in there as it is. So i was told that all I need really good speakers in the kicks and the ****ty ones in the rear. I didnt like that idea.
