What ohms/load would this be?

I have some single voice coil, 4 ohm subs, that are wired pos. to sub to pos. on amp, and neg. on sub, to neg. on amp. Is this a 4ohm load, can I wire these 4 ohm subs to play at a 2ohm load, and how would I wire it that way. Thanks

some? how many?

If you have (2) single 4 ohm voice coil subs you can run both sub + to amp + and both sub - to amp - and that will give you a 2 ohm load.

EDIT: AKA parallel wiring

Yeah I have two, so if I did it that way, I would only be using 1 channel, and have an open channel, and could run two more subs together on the other channel.

ifs its a mono, (1 channel amp) you shouldn't have any open channels..

It's a two channel amp thats bridgeable, I wasnt sure if it would be safe to bridge two subs, but I would still have 1 channel not in use that way right? Thanks for the help.

You are WAY off dude...

Post up some links to the amp and subs that you have and we can tell you EXACTLY how to wire them properly.

This generic information SUCKS for telling people how to do something properly, there are so many different pieces of stereo equipment that have different limitations on them, advise given may cause you to blow something without having the proper information.

If you tell us what equipment you are using, subs and amps, we can tell you how to hook it up properly for the best performance.

You can not bridge that amplifier safely with those speakers, if you do you will smoke it/blow it. With that equipment you're best bet is to connect 1 speaker per channel, period.

If you want more power, you're going to need to upgrade equipment.

Ok because my amp says it's rms is 75 watts, I assume at a 4ohm load right if it's hooked up pos. to pos. and neg. to neg. right? And 150 at 2ohms, so to run my amp in 2ohms I would need 2ohm subs then to keep things kosher correct? Thanks for the help.

He should be able to parallel wire the two subs to a single channel on the amp and not hurt the amp. Since running both subs off one channel ISN'T bridging, he should be fine.

However, he's probably only going to get the same amount of power as he would if he were running two subs at 4-ohms in stereo.
