What dash kit to get???

Okay, I put my head unit in my firebird (4th gen), and the install kit completely sucked. It still moves around and the trim ring that goes around the climate controls and deck won't stay on over it. I swear I used half of my old erector set to get this thing to stay in. Is there a certain brand that actually works? This thing is seriousley a piece of junk, the deck had no where to bolt to, except the plastic thing in the back that rests in a hole. And where should I get an antennae adapter? Thanks

Screw in? No, you slide the HU's sleave into the kit and bend little tabs to hold the sleave in place. Then you slide the HU into the sleave.

Here's what my Alpine looks like in the 3009...

Okay, I ordered it, but I'm still not sure what you are saying. Is my head unit supposed to have a sleeve? Because someone else installed it in my other car, then I put it in this one, so maybe I forgot something??? Or does this kit come with a few different sleeves that work with different decks. Thanks for the help

The GM Multi kit > 3009.

I like it a lot better than having the radio recessed into the kit. The texture is a lot smoother too, for a cleaner look.

The sleeve comes with the radio, not the kit. Sounds like you didnt get it out of the cold car/kit. Or you havent bent the tabs to secure it into the new kit.

Ahhh, where is my sleeve? This is definately my problem, I swear my deck is gonna break my hand one of these times when it falls out. Maybe they didn't use it and it's still in the box. I hope I can find it. I already ordered the 3009, so I hope it works. Thanks again for the help.

yea, you're going to need the sleeve... they're pretty much Brand specific too.

Also... Kit's aren't necessiary... I made my own mtg plate from a piece of 1/8" aluminum... with a jigsaw and a template I made from the kit I used to have, ruler, and sharpie.. then just mounted it with the stock screws and some washers.

Although I had to remove that stupid rear tab to get the raido to recess enough.

Cool

I just put a blaupunkt radio in my 94 Camaro, with the Metra kit, should I put something behind the radio to hold it up? Right now its just being held in by the metal sleeve. Theres a stud commin out the back of the head unit, should i make a bracket to attach that to the dash?

You should if you can get to it. The added support will help prevent skips. I wasn't able to so I added padding beneath the HU to help stabilize it.

That makes sence. I took it for the first highway ride today and it skips like a mother over every expansion joint in the road. Gotta get back there with my erector set.

thanks
