what all is needed to install a head unit?
I'd like to install an aftermarket head unit in my trans am and was curious if I needed to buy anything elso before I try to install it. I have a factory bose system if that matters. Someone told me I needed to buy an adapter kit or something. Any help would be appreciated. What is a good head unit also?thanks
Good head unit? Depends on what you want it to do. If you want lots of controls over your system, MP3 capabilities, XM-ready, CD changer controls, etc. . . The possibilities are endless. I have a Pioneer DEH-P7400 and I love it. It plays MP3 discs, its XM-ready, it has subwoofer controls, it looks good and it was cheap too!
As for the installation, you will need a wiring harness and a mounting plate/kit. Both are available at a place like Best Buy, Circuit City or www.crutchfield.com .

you will also need a adapter since you have a bose system in it. unless you have the time and later on want to add your system, your gonna have to run new wires to each speaker and then to the head unit. i had to do that to my 93. in my 2000 i have the sony mex-5d1. its the unit with that small lcd screen on it that comes out in that commercial with the little pimp blue dude. i the hu since it gives you plenty of audio and visual otions. also with that little magicgate memory stick you can download some cool videos and play em. granted it's small, it funny watching slipknot tear up on the small screen. good luck with which ever route you go
