Question Volume Specifications. W/ or W/O woofer?

I have an Audiobahn Alum10Q. I love it. But right now its in a square tube, thrown in my trunk. I've had previous self-made fiberglass enclosures that actually replaced the rear driver's side panel in the trunk...however they didnt hold up very well.

I was looking at the subthump.com boxes that go underneath that rear driver's side panel. However I saw it has only .6 cubic feet of volume. So here's my dilemma....

My specs say the sub takes up 1.5 cubic feet of space and the Minimum/Maximum Sealed Volume is 0.4/0.9 (with 20% fiberfiller). So my question is, What should be the actual volume of the box? Would it be the MIN/MAX specified + the volume of my woofer? ..or plain and simple MIN to MAX (.4 to .9)?

I really need help! Its been going on for over a year that i've been having to throw my tops in the backseat!!

I think you need to check your figures again. There is no way a subwoofer takes up 1.5 cubic feet of volume. A 10" sub typically only takes up about .06 cubic feet of volume.

You will get better subwoofer performance by placing it in an enclosure that is closer to the MAX than the MIN recommended internal volume. The larger box will play louder and go deeper than the smaller box.

Right. The enclosure I have right now sounds awesome! But the design lacks luster.

If I mounted the woofer backwards in the subthump box... do you think that I would be able to mount my t-tops in the back? And also, would the box just fall over from the weight of the magnet being outside of the box?

There isn't enough room on the driver's side to mount the sub backwards. There is on the passenger side but not the driver side.

Mounting the sub backwards is stupid IMO. The cone is what couples the sub to the air around it. The more cone area you have the more air the sub can move. The more air the sub moves the louder it is. Mounting the sub backwards sacrifices cone area when compared to conventional mounting.

So i need conage. Gotcha. Well I emailed the "sales" department at subthump to ask them/him what the depth is for the box so I might be able to find out if my woofer will fit. I guess it doesnt really matter though... I could just make some wooden gaskets out of some MDF and then use them for added depth. But then thats even more work I have to do. ..if i only had a cheap-o woofer.

Yea, really the only way to fit the larger subs into a stealth style enclosure is to make a custom Fiberglass one meant specifically for the sub. I've done one before for a Brahma, and it was a beast and JUST fit, even with the box protruding such that the sub almost touched the t-tops when moving.

Thus the reason I now have my subs where the back-seat used to be, and is now useless area due to the roll-bar.

Just as an update:

My woofer fits well in the box and it hits a little harder on the higher frequencies now. The lower frequencies I expected to not be as loud, but they are acutally just as good!
