got a question about the VATS system on my 94.

car is all stock as far as alarms go, and i have no key fobs. about 2 years ago the security light came on and has never gone off. car starts and runs fine. well i found a resistor that equaled my key and was going to hardwire it in. i disconnected the orange wires from the cylinder to the connector under the dash panel, and for grins thought i would see if the car would start. well it did, and continues to do so even with the wires disconnected.

any ideas on this?

Your car is in "Fault Enable Mode". Meaning it found a problem with the VATS system after the car was already started, so it figures there is a problem with the system itself and not somebody trying to steal your car.

The wires connected to the ignition cylinder probably broke. I had the same exact problem and that's what it was.
