Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

I usually listen to rock, so I don't need some earth shattering bass. I like to listen to my music loud, with crisp clear sound. In the low end I'm happy with the stock speakers, but they don't go as clean as I'd like up top. I'm looking at this setup from best buy, let me know if this would be a good choice.

Speakers
Amp

If I got those, I would be able to run all 4 speakers off the amp since its 4 channel, right? Sorry, I don't know very much about this car audio stuff.

I can't answer your questions, but I did want to point out that those Best Buy prices are WAY TOO HIGH!

Ebay sellers are getting about $150 for the same $270 Best Buy speakers, and about $150 for the same $250 Best Buy amp.

Never purchased Alpine but they're supposed to sound really nice. I had Kicker 6.5" 2-ways in my last car running about 100-115 RMS to them and they sounded great.

I'll be getting them online, but I can go check the stuff out locally and see if it sounds good. There aren't too many car audio places around here (that I know of) to sample.

Alpine speakers are great. Find a better price.

Kenwood amps, in my opinion and experience, suck. Look at Rockford Fosgate, Apline, MTX, and Pioneer for good car amps.

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

Ok I have ran many diff speakers and amp setups in many diff fbodys. Personally for a budget coaxial or component I prefer infinity hands down over alpine. You really need to run components in the front it will really enhance your system. I just did an install for my girlfriends dad in his TA and he loves it we used a phoenix gold 4 channel amp http://sonicelectronix.com/item_1703.html to power CDT components in the front which for the money are awesome http://www.thezeb.com/p-CDT-Audio-CL...tem-101083.htm . We then used infinity coaxials in the rear http://cgi.ebay.com/INFINITY-REFEREN...QQcmdZViewItem . We bridged the rear channel of the amp into a 10 inch sub in the hatch and the system rocks... deff for the money sounds great. Infinity makes some nice components but for a few dollars more the CDT's can be had. I am more then willing to answer anyones questions and help with any installs in the Illinois area

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

That sounds very appealing, PentraVolvo. Can I get more information on that, how would you go about installing, etc? I need to go with high quality door speakers over a subwoofer mainly because I have a convertible with the top always down and very loud exhaust.. it would be a very high dollar setup just so I could hear it. Any other suggestions for car audio?

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

I agree 100% about the sub then. Now some people just run front speakers and no rear, but thats up to you a little rear is nice especially if u dont have a sub. You could always get just a midbass speaker for the rears or a small sub to drop into there which would give you some bass or just conventional coaxials. Now depending on what you wanna do you dont need to amp the rears because u prly wont be hearing much of them, you coudl run the rears off of the HU power. So you have to decide on a 2 channel amp or a 4, personally for your setup I would run a 2 channel amp with the rears coaxial speaker powered off of your headunit. I understand about being heard over a loud exhaust I also drive a modded 5.0 mustang around with headers and dumps so it screams. I take it this is kinda of new to you, if so I can post and help you through a complete install along with the other guys on the forum, this is my hobby and I love helping others. Running components in the front off of an amp will allow them to get very loud and still sound beautiful. A setup like this will blow the stock out of the water and give u a whole new feeling to music. Did you plan on getting a new headunit or keeping the stock one, I would recommend aftermarket clear sound and more adjustability Feel free to PM me and I can give u as much help as you need with detailed insructions etc, I could post as well for others.

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

I have an aftermarket Pioneer HU, but I'm planning on upgrading that to something alittle newer. Do you still recommend the speakers you posted, and if I need a 2channel instead of a 4channel, can you recommend one that'll work well? Also, money isn't an issue.. Not saying I'm looking to spend a few thousand on this setup, but if there's something better out there for alittle bit more money, let me know. Yes, this is all very new to me.. my biggest step has been switching out HU's...thats about it. Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

ok a 2 channel will probally work the best for you, I would still recommend those speakers there is nicer stuff out there but can get expensive fast I am willing to say those speakers will more then cover your needs. Personally I am a big elemental designs fan I run alot of there equipment but some ppl dont like them at all. You might want to check them out www.edesignaudio.com they are the friendliest ppl in the world. They make an amp called the nine.2 http://edesignaudio.com/product.php?...pid=24&cur=USD which I absolutely love. There are tons of amp choices mtx is nice but in my opinion way over priced. I actually like the phoenix gold stuff I have used em in alot of installs recently along with the elemental designs stuff, edesign also has 2 very nice compoent sets very similar to the CDT's build off the same design in a way... I have personally compared the EDI6000s agasinst the CDTs and i liked the EDI6000s more, they also have the 6500s which are super nice but i haven personally touched em. Either way I think you will be happy, but there are always other options. A nice phoenix gold amp would be http://www.cardomain.com/item/PHOX1002 its one of there higher end models not the entry level. There are tons of other amps as well ppl will recommend. Persoanlly I am die hard elemental designs I have set up a few buddys with them, the TA would have gotten them as well except we got a stellar deal on some new used equipment. Too bad you arent in Illinois I would practically do the install for you haha

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

Alright, so you think I should go with the EDI6000s and the Nine.2, with the Infinities in the rear? Since Elemental Designs has free shipping, I might as well get this stuff from them if I can.

Edit: After some reading, it looks like I'll need to go with the infinity 6012SI instead of the 6012I, due to me having a convertible. Have you heard/delt with the 6012SI?

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

If the si is the slim mount then yes i put them in an infinity car, they are the same speaker basically. the elemental stuff is super nice u might get a discount for buyin amp and spks i can see for you i know em good as well i prly have a 10 dollar off coupon for u somewhere... u dont necesarily need rears some get em some dont its ur call... i would recommend running new speaker wire from the deck straight to the rear speakers, especially if u had a monsoon/bose system

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

Alright, I'll order this stuff tomorrow. One more question, what wiring should I use? Just use the RF kit at Bestbuy/Circuitcity, or should I get some different stuff? Same for the re-wiring of the speakers, what type of wire should I use? Is it all basically the same?

I've pretty much got all my stuff picked out now, even though it ended up being more than I originally planned.
Pioneer DEH-P960MP Headunit with XM Radio and iPod adapter
Elemental Designs EDI6000 (Front)
Infinity 6012SI (Back)
Elemental Designs Nine.2 Amp

Wire the front speakers to the Amp, and run the rears off the headunit. Anything else I should include?

Re: Upgrading door speakers, are these good?

Yeahs fronts to amp, rears to headunit. I wouldnot buy my wiring at circuit city or bestbuy u will pay tooo much for garbage. Some ppl laugh but for speaker wire I usually pick up 16ga at homedepot 100 feet for i wanna say 10bucks but it could have been 20, it does the job for me everytime, i mean its not monster cable or anything which u dont need. As far as wiring kit i always use knukonceptz.com an 8 ga kit is what u need http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK8 i have used this kit many times, that speaker wire it comes with you wont be using its overkill time 10x for speakers I use it for subs alot but just hang onto it. They have speaker wire http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail...rodID=KAR16BLS which is nice but with the outer coating it can be hard to run in doors been there done that. for the speaker wire i just stick with homedepot stuff and pick up some end terminals for the speakers http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=64-3134 something like this napa or autozone 1.99 u only need the female one, the guy on the right. Make sure when you purchase ur stuff from elemental you do it as a package i just checked it and you get a discount for the edi6000s and nine2 it will be 289. keep the questions coming man i am workin on a writeup install guide for you to follow. also at the auto parts store pick up a gm sidepost terminal adapter it will make it easier
