Touchscreen, in-dash DVD players... (alpine)

I'm quite tempted by this little number. They said it doesn't fit... I haven't found a H.U. that doesn't.

A couple of questions... How do you clean the screen? Is this relitively new technology; meaning should I give it time for a price drop? Wouldn't the motor for the screen wear out easily due to CONSTANT opening and closing? (mabie that's what they have waranties for)...

I have to find justification for spending the money on a tv for my car when I'd like to get a nice one for the house. It would look sweet in the car, tho!

The tech is not new by any means. If you look around almost everyone has a flip out DVD player now. Pioneer has like 3 different steps in that catagory now. I wouldent expect any big drops in the future and only small ones or new models etc. They way i look at it is that if you need a NAV system then i think its a smart move because you get everything for cheaper than in peices. Look at pioneer and i belive that the new eclipse line has one as well. It will fit with an extension kit and some love.

the flip out screen players have been around since at least 1998... I remember I used to have a guy stop in at the computer store all the time who had one in his car. Not new tech at all.. they are just adding more formats to what it reads. I would not hold my breath on the price coming down...

to clean the screen you can use the same stuff you use to clean monitors and laptop displays, you can pickup a 12 pack of lcd wipes for like 10 bucks or something like that.

the motors sometimes will give out, what i have seen is,
a) the unit is stuck shut
b) the unit is stuck open
c) the unit moves but doesnt close all the way
d) the unit moves to open but cannot left the lcd in the up position
e) the unit closing of the screen is really jerky.

If the warranty is cheap i'd go for it. But thats just me.

hmm... I was lookign att he Jensen flip screen DVD player. But, I've never been a big fan of them. Have they redemed themselves at all? I allways concidered Jensen to be a cheep genaric sterio and speaker company.

It's been a while since I've had to shop for a head unit. I've had a bada$$ Pioneer DEH-6400 for the past 6 years! It still rocks! It's got a bunch of equaliser functions. What I like about the Jensen is it had a center channel connection.. But the Alpine has the name, quality and other features like..."iPersonalize lets you create and download custom Bass Engine settings at Alpine's website, then upload them into the system"
