Thumbs up System Help plzzzz... Almost decided

Here is where I am going at to this point.

*) Alpine 9815

*) XM Antenna

*) SWI-X (keeping steering controls)

*) 165K2P's in the front fill, possibly in rear fill as well (clearance)?

*) B-Quiet Deadener

*) Custom rear facing sub box for convertible (why I need 8" subs). I don't want to lose my trunk space.

*) Subwoofers... UNDECIDED I am leaning towards the Kicker Solobaric L7 8" 4 ohms. Unless you have a better suggestion? 10" w/ subthump passenger side?

*) Two (3 ?) Amps to power all... UNDECIDED would like Class A (heard it was cleaner?) Any suggestions; Kicker, JL? But, what size & how many channels to power two sets of 165K2P's & another for the sub?

Does anyone have any suggestions on my system choices for the car? specially the UNDECIDED.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Jon

Subs

if you do decide to go with the L5's, you wont be dissapointed . I would suggest also buying some dynamat to line the trunk and inner door panels with, you will get a much clearer and more defined sound

Good Luck,

If your gonna use a deadner goto www.b-quiet.com I think thats the link, its alot better deadner for much lower prices. If your gonna go kicker i'd say just get the L7...you could always do a stealth box with a single L7 10 in there and power it with a JL 500.1

Talking Thanks for the input!

I am considering some other changes. Since I have a 2001 SS convertible I checked the car w/the top down. It is totally sealed shut. I'm getting worried that a subwoofer (say 1 L7 in a Subthump passenger box 10") won't really do justice, just rattle the trunk.

I am checking into the clearance space for my rear fill speakers & may add a 2nd set of 165K2P's my chosen speakers. I may have to use some spacers to obtain the necessary clearance.

This is hard as hell to decide what to do. No one I know has what I am looking towards.

well if you are looking for a better sounding sub than the 8" L7 the Elemental Designs A series 8 was designed to sound great... i am not sure about the 8" L7, but the bigger ones are not that great sounding....

Verts suck for bass. How about a passenger side box with a 12" and then keep your spare tire where the 8" box would have gone? As for amps, go with a 4-channel amp for your 6 3/4"s and a 1-channel amp for the sub. You're best bang for the buck is going to probably be Rockford Fosgate. Kicker also makes some affordable and powerful amps. JL is wonderful, but pricey.

SShevy hasn't responded to 2 emails on the pods. Can you work on him a bit for me??

I think you are right w/the subs. I may go with the passenger side stealth box & a 10".

As far as the amps go. Regardless of the brand, JL, Avionexx or Rockford.

What amperage should go with the 4 channel powering 2 sets of 165K2P's (2 way separate system. 165mm (6-1/2") woofer,
40mm (1-9/16") v.coil, 100mm (4") magnet. TN 52 tioxid 5 tweeter. Separate crossover 18 dB/oct. (3.8kHz). Adjustable tweeter and midrange level. Max. power handling: 200W.
Nominal, power handling: 100W. Sensitivity (2.8 V/1m): 92.5dB.
Frequency response: 70Hz-22kHz)?

Also, wattage for the 1 channel amp powering the sub say w/a Elemental Design e10A.22, Dual 2 ohm 650/1300 watts?

Thanks,

(I am getting closer)

I have a convertible with 2 12 inch solobaric L7's. With the top up the bass is amazing. But when the top is down it sits right where the subs are facing, so it is VERY muffled. It suffocates the speakers so much that I can hardly hear or feel them.

Unhappy Wowwww

Thats what I figured as well. Kinda puts a damper on the whole sub issue for a guy in South Florida who has the top down 24/7.

Anyone have input on amp/channel size ??

More and more looks like 2 sets of 165K2P Focals for front & rear fill (w/spacers).

Why not go with a 3-way up front? There are a number of 8" drivers that fit in the doors and passanger area (with a little work).

Go with the 165K3P for the front stage and use the rear speaker area for a pair of JL 8W3v2 with 125 rms handling each.

dude.....just get 3 10's (Kenwood Excelon DB's) then get 3 amps....2 for the speakers (front/rear) and a nice mono class D amp for the subs and your set. Thats all i did and it pounds like crazy!! Plus the highs and mids are unbelievable. If you want, check out my page to get some ideas. Its important that you do your system once and get it done right the 1st time.

So your head unit can be used as the XM reciever, or is that aline 9815 or whatever the reciever itself. I have an XM ready head unit, but I thought I still needed the brain/reciever for XM.
