Red face Subs and Amps --- NEED HELP!!

I am looking at getting an Infinity KAPPA 100.3SE 10" Subwoofer Single Voice Coil rated at 275 RMS/1100 Peak. Or an Alpine SWS-1041D 10" Type-S Series which is rated at 200 RMS/600 Peak and it's a Dual Voice Coil.

What is the difference in a Single Voice Coil vs. Dual Voice Coils? I am only planning on getting one sub but I don't know which would sound cleaner and fill out my low frequencies as well.

What type of amp would you use to power these subs. Is there a general rule for matching an amps power with a subs power? I am not quite sure about 4 ohm vs 2 ohm ratings!

Your 2 cents is greatly appreciated!!

There have been a lot of positive reviews about the Alpine Type-S. The advantage of a dual voice coil woofer vs. single coil is just wiring flexability. No difference in sound. Which you should get depends on what amp you plan on getting. Most likely a single 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm woofer. Unless you get a 2-channel amp and plan on bridging. How much do you want to spend on a sub amp? Do you already have an amp on your other speakers?

I am looking at spending about a 100 bucks on a sub and am looking for a solid amp to drive it so price isn't a huge concern...under say 250.

My other speakers are not driven by any amp...just my head unit (Alpine 9805 reciever).

Hmmm, let's just combine your budget and go from there. So you're looking at around $350 total. With that kinda money I'd go with either an Alpine Type-R or preferable an eDesign K-series in 4ohm or dual 2ohm. Get a USacoustics USX2150 (450W x1 WAY under rated) and you'll be pimpin' it oldskool style. That K-series works beautifully in a wooden driver's side box from www.subthump.com .

Why 4ohm SVC or 2ohm DVC? Why run at 4 ohms? The amp you recommended is a mono amp correct? Then I'm sure it's 2 ohm stable. Or is that power rating when bridged? And 30thAnn, have you thought about a box and wiring yet? That's another expense. Go with Red's recommendations. Good stuff.

I can get the Alpine Type-S sub for 70 bucks.

Unless I'm mistaken you can only buy eDesign subs at their website right?

I'd like to take the rest of the money and get a good amp to power it so it sounds solid. Is the USacoustics USX2150 a solid amp to run the Alpine with? Where do you buy it at?
