Sub box facing down in a vert?

Got a question... my audio shop wants to install 2 10's in a custom box for my vert. It would face down though? Is this a good idea? I will also lose most of my trunk space. Since it is a vert I cannot use the sleath box on the driver side & I ain't loosin the spare.

Just curious if anyone heard of this. He sez that it is the best way for the car & sound, no trunk rattle & it won't overwelm the 165K3P focals I am putting in along with an Alpine 9815, two Kicker amps, a MRVF540.4 & a MRDM500.1 with 2 10" Kicker CVR Comp's. Also the SWI-X to keep the steering wheel controls

Facing the subs down is a form of slot loading. This technique is one of the best subwoofer systems I've ever heard. However this has always been in cars with the subwoofer in the cabin with you and not in the trunk. I've never heard this setup in a vert before so I can't say how it will sound in your car. The way I look at it is if you can't have the subs in the cabin with you, they aren't worth having. I have yet to hear a system that the bass has to come thru the rear seats that sounded any good. Just not my cup-o-tea.

I tried that before in my coupe. While it did play very low, I could hardly hear it from the driver's seat. It was a little louder from behind the trunk. The worst part about it is that it made everything underneath the well--including the muffler--rattle like crazy. So overall I didn't care for it. I know it would be much worse in a vert. Trust me.

Well ... heres my next question.

Facing to the rear or facing to the front? I was hoping someone else w/a vert would jump in. Ideally it sounds to me like I should make my own temporary box that I could move around to see myself which sound is best. Once that is determined cut a custom box that will fit to the cars trunk shape. I am pretty handy and should have minimal problems.

Thing is with a convertible there is not a lot I can do. The top will generally be down & the top will fold up in the area behind & on top of the rear seats. If the top is up there is a plastic divider that guides the top folding that can be easily removed to allow free sound passage above the rear seats.

I would also like to know if one 10" is enough or do I actually have to go with two... again due to the blocking of sound passage?
