Which sub amp?

I have two Sony Xplod 12s in a sealed enclosure in the hatch area of my 92 Z28, and would just like some opinions as to what is a suitable amp for these. I am currently running them off of a 4 channel Alpine amplifier. They sound good, but I need more power!

What is the impedence of the woofer's voice coils? Are they dual voice coil, or not? ex. Dual 2 ohm, Single 4 ohm ......

Two channel amps are usually better for subs (they give you a little more flexibility), but it depends on the impedance of the woofer's and their voice coil set up.

If you have two, single 4ohm voice coil subs, look for a 2 channel amp that can be bridged to a 2 ohm load or a 2ohm stable sub amp.

If you have two, duel 4ohm voice coil subs, look for a 2 channel amp that can be bridged to a 4 ohm load or a 1ohm stable sub amp.

Those are the 2 most common setups.

I have always been a fan of Rockford Fosgate amps for subs. Clean, reliable sound at a decent price. When it comes to subs, you can usually get away with anything though (Name brand stuff like Sony or Pioneer work well). Try to stay away from the really cheap stuff like JBL, LANZAR, or PYRAMID.

Now isin't that strange?!?!?

Sony is good for subs.... when actually that's the worst thing they make.

And, even stranger, stay away from "cheap stuff" like JBL. I can't believe you put JBL in the same catagory as Pyramid.....

Yeah, none of the brands mentioned make great outstanding products...... but some are clearly better then others.....
