Stock Alarm Question

Just got a 98 SS. The security light on the dash is not blinking, what do I have to do to activate the alarm? When I use the keyless entry, the light does not blink, there is no horn honk, but the inside and outside lights blink. I have read the manual but it just confused me more! Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the alarm is the same as my '96. If you mean the security light in the gauge cluster, it has nothing to do with the alarm. The alarm indicator light is on top of the dash (a normal little LED). If the LED on top of the dash is not blinking, then I have no clue what is wrong. Check the wiring. The factory alarm can be programmed to NOT honk the horn when activated/disactivated (lights only). A way to check if the alarm works is to activate it (push lock on the remote with doors shut) and then open the gas door and slap it shut. This sets off my shock sensor every time. Your horn should honk and lights should flash. If it doesn't go off then start troubleshooting or take it to someone. Hope this helps...

It's all in your owners manual.
The previous owner set it up so that he didn't want a honk.

The stock alarm is fairly versitile!
