Re: Speakers???

Iwould recommend KICKERS. Ive been looking for speakers and i have went to abc wharehouse best buy and circuit city. They all said that the kicker brand component speakers are what they recomend. The guy at circuit city said he has a fire bird and just put the kicker compnent ones in and loves them... Im deciedeing if i really wanna spend the extra money for the compnent ones. I dont know if its really worth it.

Re: Speakers???

I would not get components unless you plan to run an amp. I would just buy a couple of sets of Kicker KS65's and run them off the deck. You can still add an amp later. You will not be happy with unamplified components. Her is a list of speakers to look for that I have heard and installed that will work good off radio power..

Kicker KS or DS
Diamond m3
Alpine type S
Zapco 602's
Infinity Reference
Soundstream SST

Re: Speakers???

i have this head unit in my blazer xtreme. it is very good btw. my speakers are still stock but the head unit gives them juice and i must say for being stock speakers they are good, i plan on completeing my audio set with some kickers (to match my subs). Seeing as how the HU has a build in amp it gets rid of the need for a seperate amp for your speakers. so rock out man!

I agree. Component speakers come with a much more complex crossover network that tends to make the speaker inefficient. A co-axial type speaker usually just has a series capacitor blocking the bass going to the tweeter. This more efficient speaker is better suited for HU power than a component set. Components and their inherent inefficiency really benefit from the increased power from an outboard amplifier.

Re: Speakers???

they come with everything you need, and they are definately better than coaxials, but having an external amp, like mentioned, is much better. that being said, they will work, and they will sound good without an amp, but not nearly as good as they could. Having an amp does a whole lot more than just making it louder. By having more power availble, they can amplify cleaner than your deck can, furthermore taking advantage of your component speakers abilities.

just my .02c

Re: Speakers???

The speakers are the most important piece in any audio system. Spending more money on them will give by far the best sound for your dollar.

If money is any issue I would suggest getting the best component speakers you can afford and installing them directly to the HU, the HU you chose is 22wpch RMS which is much beefier than any stock HU and should be enough to drive them.

If you find out that you don't have enough power you can then install a cheap amp. As for which brand to get that is totally up to you, honestly most brands will sound good, it is mostly preference. My favorites are Clarion and Soundstream.

One thing to remember is that expensive speakers with no amp or a cheap amp will always sound better than cheap speakers with an expensive amp.
