Speaker Size, and Recomendations
Hey dudes,
I'm absolutally sold on 1995 Camaro's, I plan on putting a wings west kit on, put some stripes on it.. yeah! Anyways, I'll save up for about a year and then get the perfect one. In the meantime, there's a huge local audio sale tomorrow and sunday, I was just wondering what speaker sizes are in the 1995 Camaro? Also, what do you guys recomend? I've been really impessed by Infinity, with an Alpine or Pioneer headunit. What do you guys think? Thanks

ttt, just need to know sizes of camaro speakers, that's all
I've looked around and there's a surprisingly nonexistant amount of information regarding this, all I can find is that there's 6.5" speakers, but surely there's another size in the car?

What's the fifth speaker size? So it's 6.5 in the door, and 6.5 in the? rear on the sides of the seats like third gen camaros or in the hatch? I could've sworn I saw a 95 with both, it looked like 6.5s near the seats and 6x9s in the trunk. Anways, I've been really impressed by Infinity, but is there a method to the speaker buying? I obviously shouldn't buy the same speaker for the front and back right? Are 6.5's bassy? I have 3.5's in my car now and they're awsome, do I need tweeters or anything?
The fifth speaker on a bose system...the one from a z28...is a factory subwoofer. It is decieving to look at the speaker grilles they look like 6x9's but I assure you they are not. 98 and later z28's have what is called a monsoon setup.they have six speakers. They have 4, 6.5" speakers and the 2 rears by the hatch are a 4x6 plate...a 3" driver with a tweeter. The 98 and to 2002 have a much better stock system than the 93 to 97. As for the 6.5" being to bassy...a good crossover will take care of that.the rear speakers would be just fill meaning the crossover settings would fill the gap between your front crossover and your sub crossover. All the rears are for is to fill in what the front speakers and the sub do not pick up. Im not sure if you are familiar with imaging on a system. I personally run a 6.5 and tweeter combo...also known as component set....in the front doors and the rear panels by the seat. The component set comes with crossovers and the rest can be done with a paragraphic eq or the amplifier. I dont know if I helped or confused you. But we shall soon see. you can run smaller speakers in the rear if you want but I didnt notice much differance if any.
Wow you answered everything, thanks so much! Except now you've left me with new questions
- They came with factory a subwoofer? Where abouts is it? I've been wondering about component sets, they're just kind of like 2 speakers in one? Let me try to figure this out
Front Speakers, component 6.5's, set on a high crossover to let the highs in
Rear speakers, fill, also 6.5s but set to pick up between what the front speakers and the sub pick up? (would you have to buy different kind of speakers for this? I know if I used my speakers now for anything less than extreme highs, or if I removed the crossover, it gets pretty muddy)
subwoofer - just used to produce all the wonderful bass notes
Wouldn't a tweeter somewhere, like near the door locks, make things a little better? I'm not too familiar with tweeters (like, the 1" onces) but any suggestions or flaws with my understanding would be greatly appreciated!

The component sets have a 6.5" speaker and a separate 1" tweeter in the set...2, 1" tweeters and 2, 6.5" drivers or midbass speakers
they also give you crossovers for each driver and tweeter combo so 2 crossovers in one kit. You would use two sets of the components and adjust the crossovers to what you like. I put my tweeters in the hole where the window crank would normally go on the door. There is already holes behind the carpet. The stock subwoofer on a 93 to 97 is in a well in the hatch on the drivers side. It has a grille in the rear panel on that side when you open the hatch. the 2 speakers in one that you were talking about are called coaxial speakers not component sets.

Ok that component thing kind of confused me.
I've heard how cool components are, what is the difference between component speakers and normal speakers? Or are they the same thing, just components having more speakers? I still don't see the logic in putting 4 of the same speakers in one car. Where would the optimal place for putting a tweeter be? I would think either where you put it, or in the A pillar. Do you power tweeters differently? Most of them don't seem to be able to handle too much power, but I'm sure it takes less power to make highs seem louder... aah now i've gotten confused

yes they only come in sets. They are matched to one another and tuned with the crossover. The advantage of components is to seperate the music. The tweeters play the cymbols and the 6.5's play the voice, guitar, the mid bass of the drums, and the snare.
The sub just plays the low bass. So you get a lot clearer more crisp music. A coaxial speaker is less money but clarity is crappy compared to a component set

does your car have a bose system from factory? My car did not, and my speakers are 6 3/4". You might want to look into that before you buy the speakers. I also just looked at a crutchfield I have laying around and it says that the speaker size for both front and rear are 6 3/4" for the bose system and the non-bose system. I can't comment on the bose system for a 95, but i'm POSITIVE that the non bose system is 6 3/4". I just had to rig two 6 1/2 speakers to fit.
I should also add that some 6 1/2 speakers also work on 6 3/4 applications b/c they have tabs that let you mount them both ways.
