speaker problem...

I have a 99 SS with a factory cd player. Problem is my back seat speakers dont seam to work. I had a 98 6 cyl with the same system in it and it sounded about 3x better. From what i recall the back seat speakers are lows (bass)? and their is nothing comming from them on my ss? Any ideas?
Thanks, Dane

Re: speaker problem...

How long have you had the car? Sounds like the speakers are no longer hooked up. You need to have someone chech the back of the deck to see if everything is in order. Also you have to check the speakers themselves to see if they are connected properly. Good luck.

Re: speaker problem...

The speakers are probably blown. It happens ALL the time with the POS factory stereo.

Re: speaker problem...

If the speakers are connected it is most likely that they are blown. If you get new speakers I suggest that you replace all of them. Hope everything works out.

Re: speaker problem...

If your running your stock deck, you don't need anything fancy. Just go to Bestbuy or Circuit City and look for any sales.

Had the same problem, the braided wire/thread that runs from the hookup to the speaker cone is messed up and i just put some solder on there and they started working agian! Now they are blown anyways! and when i bought new speakers they didnt sound good at all? on the back of the factory ones it says 2 OHMS. Have anything to do with that>?

Re: speaker problem...

i'd check to see if there is even a speaker there, ive seen several customers come in after they bought cars and they were missing speakers and didnt know about it.

had one guy about a week ago come in with a 02 eclipse w/ factory infinity sound system, but the deck didnt work, after changing it the rears didnt work, so i shined a light through the grill and the speakers were missing. Customer was totally unaware they were gone cause previous owner didnt tell him.

Re: speaker problem...

To Sshortt,
If the factory speakers said two ohms and you are still using the factory deck, you need to install replacement speakers that are rated at two ohms.
If you are running a aftermarket deck, you most likely need speakers rated at four ohms. If the impedance (ohms) do not match the speaker will not get optimum power. Good luck.

Re: speaker problem...

The rear speakers of the monsoon system are dual voice coil woofers (2 ohm). I wouldn't try to relace all the speakers if you are using the factory head unit. I would either get a couple of direct replacements from the dealer or just go get some cheap replacements. I have seen many people waste money on expensive two or three ways just for them to play bass only and get half the power. Once you change the head unit then look into better speakers.
