Sony Xplod.. yay or nay??

I'm thinking about buying a friends Sony Xplod cd player for my car. I don't know too much about car audio, so I'd like to get your opinions. Its model Sony Xplod cdx 750. Let me know what you guys think. Are these decent cd players? Opinions please.

From what I've read on here, and some other forums, Sony is not the way to go for car audio.

Well one thing that you will find out if you ask around is that sony is not what it used to be at all (kinda like fosgate) IMO they went down hill when they introduced the xplode name. However I did have a sony cd player in my car and it was a good one but one by one things started to not work on it anymore, first it was the cd player then the power antenna wire and then the amp jacks, eventually all that i had was a am/fm deck period. So if it was me,unless your getting a really good deal, then I would opt for a different brand like pioneer or kenwood , something along those lines.

Well I'm wanting to get a cd player with just the red lights like sony has. I can't find any other good cd players that use red lights instead of the blue/green stuff. Any ideas?

I gotta agree with the others above. Sony isn't all that great. That being said.... I'd rather have a deck that works and doesn't match the lighting as opposed to one that does have matching lights but doesn't work. I'm lucky. I'm color blind so it doesn't matter what color the lights are to me.

You might look at Blaupunkt for matching lights. They have some with some reddish lighting. I had a Blau once, and it had the best tuner, compared to the Pioneer and Alpine units I've had. If you can find a Casablanca CD-51, check it out. It's European made, rather than Taiwan or Singapore or Korea.

i like my pioneer in mine, and my dad has one also in his work van
you wouldnt believe a work van radio could sound that good
but, all pioneer offers is blue and green lighting so..
i might suggest aiwa, course i don't know anything about their quality or performance
just like LS1 RULZ, i would get a different lighted deck and have it sound good than a bad one that matches
jmho

I have an xplod head unit. It the one with the motorized faceplate (from the first year this was out). maybe its just because its one of the more expensive sonys out, but i havent had any problems with it. the only thing that i'm not happy with is how well it reads CDs. it skips on rough roads and disks that are scratched, but other players play then fine. its finicky reading disks. but i solved this problem with a 6-disk changer with mp3 capabilities..

If you're looking for a HU that matches and sounds good look at some of the Alpines. I've used them for years and are one of the best HUs out there, although you will pay a little more.

I'm running a CDA-7894 which brand new was ~ $300, I don't know what thy go for on Ebay now, much less I would say; but alpine does have 2 other HUs out that have the Amber capability, but are all even more $$.

But Sony... unless it's the older (mid 90's) ES series, I'd stay far far away...

i the sony mx630 the one with motorized faceplate and black out, and i love it. but like someone else said it is finicky about reading scratched discs more so than other players but on ebay u can get a nice osny unti for pretty decent price. personally i have always had sony in all my cars for head units and am gonna stick with them.
