Some Dumbass Questions about speakers
I'd first see how much a replacement driver will cost. If they're pretty pricey, find a local shop that does speaker repairs.
Example: I had a blown 15" Yamaha driver. A replacement was over $200. I had it rebuilt for $120 at a local shop, and that included a $25 rush fee because i needed it ASAP.

Call Boston. Their customer service is top notch. If a replacement driver is too spendy (Though I'd imagine it would be 30$ or so), go to Http://www.madisound.com or http://www.partsexpress.com and find something similar. You'll need to buy a pair so both speakers sound the same.
A 4 ohm driver would probably work just fine, however it'll change the crossover point. I believe, and I could very well be wrong, that lowering the impedence of the driver will raise the crossover point. Like I said, I could be wrong, but it'll still play. Most receivers can handle 4 ohms without much trouble.
