Right side of stereo not working......

So, there we were enjoying the 4th of July and all of a sudden one of my Koda midbass's starts to get crackly and sound like ***. I figured for some reason it blew. I don't know why it would have blown, I listen to my music at a reasonable level and surely a level good enough for this speaker to handle, but that made the most sense at the moment. So today I go out to try and see what the deal is and I notice that my front right speaker isn't working either. I swap my Rca's sides and the right side still isn't working (left side working fine). What the heck happened? Is it my CD player? It would be odd if 2 sets of RCA's left sides went IMO. It's in the 90's so it's a lil too toasty to tear into the stereo now, but I may try later tonight or when the weather cools off. Any ideas?
Thanks
Brian

OK, I assume you have a 4ch on them. Bust out the ol 9v and try to 'pop' them at the amp. See if you get sound..

Actually, I have 2 two channel amps on them. Which makes me think it's the deck. How common would it be to have the right side channel on each amp or have one side of two pairs of RCA's just stop working? I doubt that happens too often.

It would be one for the record books. Still try popping the speaker. Im thinking it could possibly be a grounded out speaker/wire, or maybe even a blown one...

So a blown rear speaker could cause the front one to stop working? I'm not sure what 'popping' is though......could you explain it?
Thanks,
Brian

Yeah, a grounded signal can shut down the amplifier. Happens alot with aftermarket radios and blown factory speakers.

The trick with the 9 volt is to put the + lead to the + speaker - to -. This will send the speaker voltage, and let you know if it can recieve signal. You can also check the resistance with a DMM... If the speaker is 4ohm it should be right about there, maybe more maybe less. If the reading fluctuates, or is way off, the speaker is toast.

so a grounded speaker can shut down one side of a stereo and let the other side be fine? if so, id bet this is the problem.
