replacing attenna, need advice

I bought this replacement attena just for the looks and I need to know how much of a pain in the butt it is going to be installing it so I have a few questions. This thing replaces the entire Attena, from the radio plug to the mast.

1. How do you remove the stock attenna base, does it have a rocker arm on the base, can you just unscrew it from the outside or will I have to remove interior panels?

2. The instructions say that I can just tie the new cord to the old one and from the radio just pull the old out and the new will follow to complete the routing, this sounds great but what if the old wire is tied to other wires or mounted to the frame somewhere? Has anyone ever done this?

thanks

1) I don't have a Camaro so I can't help you with this.

2) There are too many twists and turns in the cable's routing. There's no way that you'll be able to just pull the new cable thru using the old one.

have you ever tried it? I know a lot of people on here have installed power attenas and such, somebody has to know from experience.

I don't think you will have to route the new antenna cable at all. Check inside the spare tire area and see if the stock antenna plugs into the cable that goes to the rear of the radio. It'll be mostly plug and play.

yeah, I was reading some other posts and I'm outside doing it right now, the problem I have now is how to connect the 2 male connectors, I don't want to spice this cable, do you think I can get a connector for this at a store? Do you think I can just use a pipe section and wrap it in tape? Will having an extra 12' of cable in the back make reception worse?

Yes, there is an adapter that will allow you to plug the two cables together. Check around a good shop that does installs. They'll probably have the adapter. I'd coil the extra cable in a loop and put some twist ties on it to keep it from coming undone. I doubt it will hurt reception.

Your were a little too late, It was a stuipid thing to do buy I cut one end off and sodered the wire to the other connector, the reception is pretty bad now, I've got to fix it or find a way to boost it. I guess I need to RF shield were I cut it up. Do you know of another way to boost the reception?

Radio Shack used to have a tool designed to splice those kinds of cables. You might check and see it it is still available. I never had any luck trying to splice car radio antenna cable.
