Question Replacing 6.5" Monsoon speakers in back

From previous posts I've come to the understanding that the 6.5" speakers in the pilars (not farthest ones back in the trunk) act as the subwoofers for the Monsoon system for a 99 Trans Am.

Stupid me blew one of them out and need to get it replaced. I went to Best Buy last weekend and got some 6.5" Sony Xplodes 3-way 220W and put them and I its sounds like crap. Basically I think its because the sound being sent to those speakers by the Monsoon system are only low ranges while the sony's are trying to play everything.

So I need some expert advice. Would it be worth while to put the sony's in the front of the door panels and get some sort of subwoofers for the pilars?

I did a search at crutchfield and came up with these:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-yFMknGG...?g=76400&avf=Y

Would any of these do a good job acting as subwoofers? Is it possible to fit 8" subs in the sides? What do you guys recommend for a good sounding system with the Monsoon setup (i'm not looking for a thumpin hearing down the street ride).

Thanks

Can't help you on the first questions since the Camaro and Firebird are different, but you will need 6 1/2 subs to replace the ones in the sail panel. I heard there were some Rockford Fosgates that will go in there that are 6 1/2, but I think they stop making them. 8 inch would fit, but after a lot of fabricating. The depth of the them would be too deep and would stick out I think. If you can find a used Monsoon sub, that would be the lowest cost way to replace it.

everyone keeps talking about the fact that fabrication would have to be done to fit 8" subs in a factory location...has anyone actually done it? Sail panel speaker or hatch speaker replacement with 8 inchers? I would think that most people attempting to put 8" subs in a factory speaker location would know that it is a weekend project requiring custom fabrication.

I honestly think it would be a lot easier to get a used one or skip out on them and replace them with full blown subs in the back. Just get the PAC adapter so you can get RCAs and go that route. Unless the money is low, I guess they could fab something up.

i just say that because i just got 2 8" freebies...i currently have 2 12's in the trunk...gonna run the 8's off an aftermarket amp...just don't want to give up any cargo room...and i don't really need a system to be heard 3 city blocks away.

on a side note...i'm creative enough to fab something up...just flat out lazy...i don't want to be that creative unless i have to.

You could just get the rockford 6.5" interior speakers which have the same polypropylene cone construction of the subs. I was playing with the speakers I sell at work (Best Buy) and you can tell the woofer has a much better sounding bass than the Pioneer and Sony speakers we have. The Rockfords are only 2 way anyway but are a little more expensive.
