remote start
remote start
I just had a clifford matrix RS3.5 installed to my M6 and I want to hook up the remote start function. I've done searches but I'm still a little unclear.
I understand I need to bypass the clutch and how that works.
I assumed I would be able to remote start the car function if I pressed the buttons while I'm in the car pushing the clutch, and it didn't start up.
The shop I had the alarm installed at was very apprehensive about the whole remote start idea on an M6. Do I only need to bypass VATS now? Are there other connnections I could be missing? If anyone is familiar with this alarm I would appreciate the help

Re: remote start
I'm trying to make this post so that anyone with an M6 that has their alarm installed by a shop that won't do remote start can wire up the remote start on their own. Help if you know how!
Re: remote start
I would think the VATS would definetly have to be programmed out of the computer or use the resistors under the dash. As far as the clutch saftey switch, you can wire it up like the clutch was pushed in all the time. Did you have the key in the "on" position when you tried the remote start while holding in on the clutch? I know it kinda defeats the purpose but just to see if it works. My opinion on a remote start for a m6 is it is a bad idea. I would always be afraid that i might have left it in gear the night before or last time i drove it. I could just see my car going through the garage wall.
Re: remote start
i have the remote start in my car and yes it does cross my mind when i go to start it,hmmm did i leave it in gear?they installed resistors equaling the value and they also have to bypass the clutch safety switch so now of course the car will start w/depressing the clutch pedal.......
Re: remote start
My dad was standing in front of a car that was in a garage looking in the engine. Guy had bypassed the safety switch and reached in to start the car and forgot he still had it in gear. Car lurched ahead and pinned my dad between the wall and the car... pushed the wall and kitchen cabinets in about 5 inches. Dad got hurt pretty bad but nothing broken. So, while I could probably tell you how to bypass this and get your remote start working, it goes against my better judgement to do so
Hint though... check my alarm install guide and you'll see how to bypass the PASS KEY/VATS system.
Also, I'll move this to the electrical forum.

Re: remote start
you will need the VATS bypass module, can find on ebay, try to get a dei one.
Also you can do two things about the clutch. You can make a jumper between the two wires on the clutch switch or get a device that is made for the manual tranny. Clutch switch jumper is definetly cheaper, but does bring some dangerous things to the table. The device that is made to work with the manual tranny I have seen for around $150

Re: remote start
Hey brent,
I checked out youre website and it has helped me on the vats bypass and clutch bypass and I understand how all that works. But even with the clutch pushed in and the key in at the ON position the remote start is not working. What am I needing to wire?

Re: remote start
did you hookup the neutral safety switch wire on the alarm? i think its black with a white stripe on the same harness with the tach wire (violet w/white). If you didnt thats why its not starting.
Also when you do try to remote start what happens? does the remote beep and show the puff of exhaust smoke on the remote? do the parking lights flash?

Re: remote start
Well not knowing your knowledge on remote starts or ability....couple things you havent mentioned....did you hook up the starter output wire?...what about a tach wire?...can you go tachless on the model of remote start...and if you cant..you have to make the unit "learn" the tach signal. What about a hood pin switch wire....is it looking for ground before it will start? Does the unit need additional programming to enable remote start functions?
I think the VATS is the least of your problem...you can do a search on the internet to find the proper way of bypassing it....all you need is a SPDT relay...digital multimeter and the right resistor.
And as many other people will tell you...dont do it on a manual car, Ive seen one car take out 5 other cars because someone leaned on the transmitter that was in his pocket. But if you insist....find the wire that tells the car its in gear...run it to the hood pin wire..make sure you diode isolate it, that should prevent starting in gear.
Hopefully that gives ya a couple things to chew on - good luck!
