Remote-Start with 1998 Z28 ?
Remote-Start with 1998 Z28 ?
I'm trying to decide what kind of car alarm to buy. Some have Remote-Start. But my 1998 Z28 Camaro (Automatic, 5.7L) has the funny ignition key with the little resistor (black square with metal ends) on it. It was my understanding that the ignition won't work without that funny key in the ignition switch. Does that mean I can't use a Remote-Start control with it? Or, does it not matter?
Did some research and found an ad on ebay that explained it. Sounds like too much trouble. Remote-Start is kinda cool, but not worth it since you have to add yet another modue, IMHO. Besides, then your anti-theft feature doesn't work. Not sure it helps much anyway but at least it's one more thing for a thief to get around.
----------------------- Snip --------------------------
VATS Bypass Module
(One Module Only)
All of our products are manufactured in house and come with instructions.
This VATS bypass module is intended for use when installing a GM engine equipped with VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) into a vehicle missing the BCM (Body Control Module), when resistor type bypasses just wont work, or for use with remote starting applications involving stock vehicles equipped with VATS. Our VATS bypass will also work to bypass failing VATS systems.
This bypass module generates the 'key OK' signal normally sent from the BCM, sometimes called the VATS decoder, to the PCM/ECM when the proper key is detected. Without this signal, the fuel injectors will shut down within the first 3 seconds. Normally it costs between $150 and $300 to have this feature deleted from the PCM. By using our module you will accomplish the same function for less and you won't have to ship your PCM/ECM to have it reprogrammed.
