Recomendations for a good 1-5 year old head unit
I need a headunit for my second vehicle, 1 din, with the ability to read cd-rs, some quality preouts(2 or 3) maybe mp3s, and some good features like eq etc, mostly going for sound quality and sub control.
Anyway, this is how this questions different then all the numerous threads about this(I did search...ALOT)
I was looking ay the alpine cda-9823 9825 and 9827 and clarion DXZ555MP etc...stuff in the $170 range new, on ebay maybe $130-160
Well, what about the best models from a couple years ago? you know the $300-$500 HU, from 2000, 2001 etc...
Does anyone have a radio they really liked that they could recomend to me. Im looking to buy here or on ebay. $50-150 bux, i just wasn't paying attension back then to radios, and so i dont have a clue. Figured its like buying a used $20,000 c5 vette over a new $20,000 honda civic.
The only thing new since then is maybe XM, but i dont want that at all. so just looking for some help. i prefer alpine, clarion and kenwood, but aiwa, pioneer etc will be ok as well.
thanks

Re: Recomendations for a good 1-5 year old head unit
I got mine I believe 2 years ago, and love it. I think it's the 7894 (or 9874) one of the two.
It has all the features you listed, XM, MP3, CD/R, CD/RW, 3 Pre-outs, cross-overs, time-equalization, some basic parametric EQ features.

Re: Recomendations for a good 1-5 year old head unit
I have a JVC Arsenal AR800. I only bought it because it was cheap, played mp3 and WMAs, and I had an old $50 JVC and liked how the menus were organized. After I got it, I read up some more on it, and it is NICE. It has 5 volt pre-amps, 3 sets, (front, rear, and sub), built-in eq, and 20watt rms output. The only thing I didnt like at first was the motorized face, but I LOVE it now. I can angle it how I want it so there is no glare. It has to be the easiest stereo in the world to operate. I had a Sony Mobile ES, and this is light-years ahead in quality and features. Only other negative for some people is that it supports sirius instead of xm, but I refuse to pay 12/month to listen to the radio. That's why I have MP3s! You can still find it on ebay relatively cheap.
