Recomend an amp for a pair of 10" JL-W0's

I need a new amp to power my subs. Looking for cheap but decent. I have had a kicker impulse amp for the last 7 years or so and it has been great, but it bit the dust.

Can someone recomend me something. The speakers are a pair of 4 ohm 10" JL Audio W0.

check out Hifonics.

they're cheap and make decent power, but they run hot (and thus shut down for a little bit). mine's just in the back of my truck so it takes awhile for it to get that hot. my old one (needed bigger to run my S12L7) was covered and would overheat really easily.

i've got the bx605 now.

mtx ta7801

rated at 1400 watts on the birth certificate, runs pretty cool. i have it hooked up to my 12" 7500s and can have it up for long periods of time with no problems. plus it looks cool

stangitr: What RTA were you using? Because hitting "close to 160db at the db drags" with your setup is almost physically impossible, especially in a trunk setup.

New MTX is actually quite a bit worse than their old stuff. My friend has a trio of MTX 2300X's, and that's where MTX's quality lies. Reason I say is because MTX was known for producing ugly, but really solid products. Recently, they've been doing the complete opposite. It seems now that they've complied with CEA 2006, their real world power ratings have gone down. Old ratings at 12.5 VDC mean more real power once installed. Using CEA 2006 means LESS power once installed. Not many electrical systems will provide 14.4 VDC with 100+ amps of current draw.

Anywho, W0's really don't need a lot of power to move. I'd say depending on your box, you could easily get XMAX with around 200watts RMS going to the pair. Just get any quality brand that does that for a decent price. I was running a single 10W0-4 in my winter beater with a Clarion 50w RMS amp, and we built a slightly larger box for the sub. It did it's job quite well, and was very clean.

IMO, the best "bang for your buck" amps come from Pioneer. They sound good enough, they don't overheat, and they make consistent, relatively clean power.

I'm a Rockford Fosgate guy, but that's not so cheap.
