radio and power windows stop working sometimes

Ok so sometimes my power windows and radio stop working at the same time. When they do work I've noticed that when I turn the car off they don't stay on sometimes how they should. Can the r.a.p. cause this to happen when the car is on? That's th only place where I can think of where the windows and radio are tied together. This is just starting to get very frustrating! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check the actual ignition with on top of the steering column. More specifically, the blue connector.

I checked that wire and everything looks fine. Well I've been hearing this relay that kicks off when the radio will turn off. I took the rap off and I still have the problem. I found the integrated body control module and that's where I'm hearing the rely clicking at. I unplugged that and the radio and windows don't even come on for a minute, I'm also not hearing the relay. So do one of these relays control the windows and radio?

Your BCM controls everything in your car. I routes power to locks, light bulbs, horn, radio. I guess it might be possible that a relay in the BCM is going bad. Or you could be losing power through it. It is possible to change the BCM, but for some it would be considered a hassle and for others it would take 10 minutes. If you want, I can tell you how to replace it. You need bacis tools, namely a 7mm socket, phillips screwdriver, a bunch of resistors, etc...... You might be able to have a dealership scan the BCM for any problems. Or at least anyone with a Tech 2 scan tool.

I already pulled the thing out, it only took a few minutes. I have a tech 2 at work I can use. How would I go about using that to check the bcm?

Well you can't really check it if it is not in a car..... The Tech 2 should give you the option to read the BCM

Did you figure out if the BCM was the problem?
I have a 97 SS and it's doing the EXACT same thing. When the power goes out you can hit the lower dash and the power will come back on.

I thought maybe wires were touching behind the fuse pannel but no fuses are blowing.

The Body Control Module is usually the problem. There is a relay to send power to the radio and windows. It is common for it to become loose on the circuit board and need to be resoldered. You can find some photos on-line, It is the taller black relay next to the 4 shorter black boxes on the circuit board.

Re: radio and power windows stop working sometimes

Hey thanks for the reply. I will see if I can get the BCM out and take a look at it. The problem has gotten worse and the radio and windows hardly work anymore. Thanks again!

Re: radio and power windows stop working sometimes

My 96 SS did the same thing. Does your car have the bose system in it? If so what fixed mine was that I pulled the bose amp outta the glove box and noticed where the connector plugs into the amp that the solder was not fully connect to the board. I resoldered the connection and I have had no problems after I redid this. I dunno if that is what was really wrong with it but after doing that I have not had it cut out on me once.

Re: radio and power windows stop working sometimes

I resoldered my courtesy power relay in the BCM last weekend and now my radio and windows have worked all week. On the top leg of the relay the solder on the board underneath did not look cracked but it was a darker color. I heated up each point and added a little solder and it is fixed. One of the other forums had a photo showing the relay and the 5 mounting points on the underside.

Here is the link to the photos. It took me about 2 to 3 hours with plenty of breaks.
